This is because no one here is honest with themselves or other people.

Years and years and years of “discussing” politics on the internet has lead me to believe it’s a very poor venue to learn anything. You might learn a little bit, but it’s mostly futile. People just want to be right, and feed their egos, not understand why someone else sees things differently than they do.

I learn a lot from the Soap Box. I find that my views on things will change at least a little bit on just about any topic. Case in point, the death penalty. After hearing people talk about it and watching the documentary "After Innocence", I have almost done a complete 180 on where I stand. I used to be very hardcore pro death penalty, but now that I have seen statistics on just how many people are wrongfully convicted, and how random the death sentence is, I find it very hard to support killing someone. At the same time, I still have that lingering thought of, "There are some REALLY bad people out there who just shouldn't be breathing", so it is very difficult for me to entirely oppose it either.

On the same note there are some people that just make me want to become very violent, either because they are just that dense, or because they are simply argumentative about anything and everything. Someone can say the sky is blue, and the next thing you know, after making that claim that somehow makes them a racist homophobe. It's probably just trolling, but it really does take away from the Soap Box.

LOL, the one time I try admitting discussing something in the Soap Box has helped me come to a political stance/decision, and someone inevitably comes along and gives me shit over it.
