Need an M12 1.5 Single Oversize (self tapping) drain bolt. Advance Auto, Autozone, & O'Reilly only carry M12 1.25.
I can get it from Amazon.com, but I have to buy 5 of them and it's $18.xx after shipping. I only need one, so I'd much rather find a single for $5 or less.
Any other place local I might find it? 11/3/2010 7:35:45 PM |

^ That's actually an excellent idea. I'll try tomorrow.
Now that I think about it...I wonder if those fuckers stripped the drain plug on my Jeep. That would explain why the bolt changed colors after an oil change.

A self tapping oil plug? In case you decide to drain the oil from a different spot on the pan?
Yeah, I'd say that's not factory... 11/3/2010 8:02:04 PM |

I've used those rubber plugs a few times when I didn't want to rethread an oil pan.

I wouldn't reuse them though or trust them on anything more than a junker. 11/3/2010 10:31:48 PM |

It's "single oversize". The threads start out as normal 12mm metric and then grow a tiny bit larger as they move up the bolt. It basically starts threading into the existing threads that are left and cuts them a little bit deeper. Kinda like sticking a 12.25mm bolt in a 12mm hole. Granted, you'll always have to use these 12.25mm drain plugs, but it shouldn't be a problem as long as you don't strip it out again.
^ I seriously thought about doing that, but I think I'll just put in a 13mm helicoil if this fails for some reason.

Carquest. M12x1.5 isn't that uncommon at all; I don't know why Advance Shit Parts doesn't have them in the store. 11/4/2010 9:03:05 AM |

^^ I'll try the CQ on Germantown Rd. on the way home. Not sure why it is so hard to find a 1.5 thread pitch either, but I guess there just isn't that much demand for it. 11/4/2010 11:09:31 AM |

Honda Rancher ATV, so it's the bottom of the crankcase rather than an oil pan. Looks like some kind of cast metal, so it should tap pretty easy. 11/4/2010 9:23:15 PM |

I used too much of my strengthyness when putting it back in.
Changed the diff fluid, transfer case, & oil filter. Was about to fill it back up with oil and be done with it, but I had to fuck something up or else it wouldn't be right. 11/5/2010 10:05:34 PM |

Advance Auto, Autozone, O'Reilly, Carquest, Midas, & Meineke didn't have it. I wasted more than $19 worth of my time trying to track down something I could have just gotten delivered to my house from Amazon.com and decided it was not worth wasting any more time on.

Looks like you hit every parts place except Pep Boys and NAPA. Add them in and complete the set?
