well long story short, I strained my calf two months ago, felt like one of those really bad cramps but then when after kind of staying on the ground for a couple of minutes and then realizing I was limping badly and couldn't put weight on it, I realized I had torn something
it's been two months and I've gone from an obvious limp to a very subtle one and could probably run for a very brief time but that's it, I'm still having trouble walking and standing for long periods, I had no idea something like this would take so long to heal, does anyone have any similar experiences or do I need surgery or something? 11/7/2010 8:54:25 PM |

if it's still that bad after two months you should see a doctor. otherwise cowboy up. 11/7/2010 9:00:30 PM |

1) Go see a doctor. You should have done that first thing. 2) Don't chance it - if it hurts at all, don't run. 11/7/2010 9:55:32 PM |

I had the same thing happen to my left calf back in July. I didn't stretch before running and I pulled that muscle so bad I couldn't even walk right. I had to wear a calf sleeve for the next two and half months. I couldn't run and I walked with a limp until about October. It took lots of stretching and walking before it got better and I still feel it at times. I never went to a doctor so I don't know for sure what it was but the calf sleeve definitely helped. 11/8/2010 7:57:46 AM |

this guy who would be in physical therapy sometimes with me had some thigh muscle issue that he strained/sprained/tore doing martial arts. anyway, he also wore a sleeve and had to go through several weeks of physical therapy.
i'd see a doc, especially this far out you might have torn a tendon or ligament 11/8/2010 4:36:56 PM |

It has probably healed and you need physical therapy. To be safe your doc should evaluate it and make sure the muscle isn't tearing from the bone or some similar injury. Sometimes tendons and things will shorten as a result of you favoring the injured area and it can become extremely painful to stretch them back to the normal length, but it is necessary for full healing. 11/8/2010 4:47:49 PM |

i strained (ie ruptured a tendon and tore a muscle) my quad in august
did a couple of sessions of PT, and got the band and exercise worksheets and continued at home. doctor said strains (as long as they aren't severe...like total ruptures) are just a wait and see injury. could be 6, 8, 10 weeks before i could get back to my regular routine.
i'd go see a doctor. you probably are going to need some PT to rehab it. esp if you have torn a tendon or something. the doctor (ortho) will be able to do tests to see how severe the tear is and then s/he will be able to tell you more!
mine has taken since august to feel better. i'd say it is like 95% better, still not 100% but it is getting there. it can seriously take awhile. and if you aren't doing what you need to be doing, or your injury is more severe, then you could be doing more damage. go to the doc!

Eh, they usually get over it before it's time to slaughter them. 11/8/2010 10:39:04 PM |

If the calf isn't sickly you could just put it down and have some delicious veal. 11/8/2010 10:45:21 PM |
