We had it at Galaxy for a few weeks. I didn't get to see it but it was supposed to be really good (and apolitical, for whatever that's worth). 11/18/2010 3:50:26 PM |

I downloaded the torrent which i assume was the unedited version. there was no killing or anything shown. Camera guy didn't have the balls to peak over the sand bags. 12/1/2010 9:09:40 AM |

It's on National Geographic on demand (TWC).
Watched it the other night, and it's pretty powerful...if you've seen Grizzly Man (same director), the style is very similar (very little music, little narration-aside from what's provided by the soldiers in interviews).
The scenes about operation Rock Avalanche were intense...it's tough to imagine a place in this day and age that's gone so untouched by the modern world. 12/9/2010 10:28:07 AM |

This is a great movie. It really pulls you in and keeps your attention.
The whole time though, I couldn't help but think of my cousin who was killed in a similar situation in Afghanistan. Horrible strategic position combined with an intel failure. It's a more complicated situation that has been featured on a few TV shows...
It's a really good video that ran on Dateline NBC if you're into the documentary kind of thing. Pruitt was a bad ass MMA fighter and was the first one to seal off the attack when they were five feet away.

saw it over the weekend.
really really good, and definitely apolitical, which is a hard thing to find with anything war related.
Definitely puts things in perspective having my brother-in-law in the marines, with one deployment to afganistan under his belt already. 4/25/2011 10:45:52 AM |

don't think it was apolitical
i think it was meant to raise the questions of "why are we there?" and "what are we fighting for?" 4/26/2011 1:12:53 PM |
BobbyDigital Thots and Prayers 41777 Posts user info edit post |
sure, it certainly makes one raise the question-- the fact that the film doesn't try to answer the question is what makes it apolitical.

I don't think it was overly political, but I think "what are we fighting for?" is in itself a political statement 4/26/2011 1:52:57 PM |

I thought it was pretty apolitical. Definitely had a strong "why are we here" kind of vibe, but didn't really go into the actual politics of anything. It was pretty moving, and it gives you a really good prospective of what the boots on the ground go through on a day to day basis. I strongly recommend it to anyone who is the least bit interested in the subject. 4/28/2011 8:05:14 PM |
