"Combating Online Infringement and Counterfeits Act (COICA, S.3804) sets up a system through which the US government can blacklist a pirate website from the Domain Name System, ban credit card companies from processing US payments to the site, and forbid online ad networks from working with the site. It passed the Senate Judiciary Committee 19-0 this week, but it's never going to pass the Senate before the end of the current Congress.

That's due to resistance from people like Senator Ron Wyden (D-OR)…"

"A New York City lawmaker on Thursday introduced legislation to prohibit the TSA from using its advanced body scanners at New York airports, including JFK, the busiest international airport in the country.

Democratic councilman David Greenfield says six fellow council members have signed onto the proposal, which comes amid growing unease over the so-called Advanced Imaging Technology scanners, which allow airport screeners to see beneath a traveler’s clothes."

One side holds up our tax cuts because of their odd obsession with the most thriving quintile of earners, while the other side at least tries to maintain a semblance of liberty.

Didn't you know? "Fairness" doesn't map onto human utility at all. A millionaire giving away half of his things and a homeless person giving away half of his things ... this is true "fairness".

Don't worry if it doesn't make sense to you, because it doesn't make sense.

It is not that the GOP obsesses over the most thriving quintile. The issue is that dems cry about tax cuts to low income families and "average" america when in reality 50% of US households have NO Zero federal income tax liability.

You are right though about the mainteance of liberty. While the dems are constantly trying to siphon my pocket. They are the lesser of two evils when we have crap like the COICA being passed, the Patriot Acts, and various other assaults on my personnal liberties that are being drawn up by the GOP under the GUISE of national security.

As of this recession. During the bubble days it was 32%, with the "rise" cited at that link no doubt aided by the Bush tax cuts.

The whole "50% pays no income tax" is just pure talking point without considering the context I've come to expect out of a bobble head in the MSM and talk radio.

Really? The current suits in Washington certainly didn't do anything meaningful to repeal the Patriot Act, and they had the power and the super majority to do so. And you think they are a lesser evil? Quite the contrary, they are worse, for they will tell you they'll do something and then not.
