2005 maxima - 97k miles - have done no significant maintenance/repairs other than a standard 30/60/90k tuneup within 5k miles of each

this morning on the way to work (about half way through my 6-7 mile trip) accelerating slowly from a stop light when shifting from 1st to 2nd - 2nd to 3rd - 3rd to 4th - the car jerked and it felt like the transmission was slipping - there seemed to be a loss of power and then pretty quickly things went back to normal until the next shift change

there was no issue when down shifting

i changed it to the 'manual shifting mode' after the next few lights and it seemed like if i shifted as quick as possible then the problem wasn't there but if i waited to shift then the problem occured - this was a basic test and only done 2 or 3 times so i wouldn't say it's definitive

i googled and the results are all over the damn place it seemed like

Low transmission fluid will cause that. Check the level with the car running.
If it is low you need to keep it full and find out where the leak is.
If it isn't low it's probably going to get expensive.
Smell the transmission fluid to see if it smells burnt.

Driving it like that with low fluid will cause damage, so figure it out pretty quick.

air leak that opens up as the engine shifts. air leak is after MAF. potentially also a sign of bad motor mount (not necessarily, but worth checking while you're under there)

[Edited on November 24, 2010 at 6:21 PM. Reason : by shift i don't mean transmission ]
