I have absolutely no idea why you'd want one of those things mounted to your wall in your living room/theater room. Maaaaybe in the kitchen or some place that you're standing in anyway, but it seems like such an awkward place to put a computer in a room that you would primarily sit in.
If you ask me, it seems like they took the perfect application for a tablet pc/iPad and ruined it by sticking it inside a wall in an inconvenient location. Aside from the "holyshitthat'scoolyouhaveacomputerinyourwall" factor, it seems beyond useless.

I would just want that same program on a computer at a desk somewhere near by.....not necessary to have it on a wall. 11/24/2010 5:51:11 PM |

^exactly. Can you imagine the premium you could charge for a Star Trek ed. Ipad with LCARS. 11/24/2010 10:56:29 PM |

Awesome! I want one now. I think it's pretty cool the guy developed it all on his own and seems very fast response time with a clean gui. I'm sure he could easily adapt the system as an Ipad app, but probably be hit with lawsuits.
+1 on the awesome button sound effects.
Now he needs to redesign the living room with more trekky appearances. lol 11/25/2010 3:57:17 AM |

I disagree with the bit about controlling the lights, you could make something pretty cheap. Then again id be hard pressed to program something like that so each to their own. 11/25/2010 9:49:42 AM |

i would never put this on an iPad. What you'd be doing there is controlling whatever machine is in the wall anyway via some stupid app. You're looking at the root of the machine here - he could remote into this over almost any machine, not just pidginhole his awesome creation onto some product that will be replaced within a year or two.
With his current setup you could run an interface on a galaxy tab, a PC, a Mac, a iPad, Droid, etc. WAY more useful than some single-device app. 11/25/2010 11:06:21 AM |

Sorry. I see 2 forks. One is to write the application entirely into the iPad - control code and all. The 'app' is issuing commands to make changes around the house. The second (that I am suggesting) is more of a client/server relationship. The server handles all the changes and serves back remote video. The client (written for a galaxy tab, iTab, google TV, whatever) just issues commands to the server to make changes at a wire level. 11/26/2010 10:11:01 AM |

So, if I'm following you, you're saying it would be a bad idea to completely re-write the operating system of an iPad to make it where it's one sole function would be to control what movie you watch on your tv.
I will completely agree, and while we're at it, I should point out that I've always thought it would be a horrible idea to make a car that has an engine that only functions when just one wheel is touching the ground. Also I think it would be bad if you replaced all the windows of your house with cottage cheese.] 11/26/2010 5:21:52 PM |
