Quote : | ""Lights Out" is about an aging former heavyweight champ (Holt McCallany) struggling for both a direction and a way to pay the bills after some bad investments - as written by former "In Treatment" showrunner Warren Leight, it's like the plot of "Rocky V" only, you know, good. (I saw the pilot before summer press tour and liked it a lot.) It debuts Tuesday, January 11 at 10 p.m." |
Looks pretty solid, and FX track record with original series has been very good of late.11/30/2010 2:32:59 PM |

You saw the pilot or you're quoting someone who saw the pilot?

Obviously I was quoting someone else, I can put the link up if it really bothers you that much, but I put all the relevant info on the show in the thread. 11/30/2010 3:25:05 PM |

I'll give it a shot...between this and the Walhberg movie, I'm glad to see boxing programming making a comeback. 11/30/2010 3:35:23 PM |

This show also has a pretty good cast which I neglected to mention in my first post including the inimitable Stacy Keach as the main character's father, as well as The Wire alums Reg E Cathey and Pablo Schreiber. 11/30/2010 3:47:20 PM |

The pilot was really solid, and Holt McCallany was fantastic...I'm expecting big things for the rest of the season. The ratings for the pilot were pretty disappointing, hopefully they can grow the audience enough to get a renewal. 1/14/2011 12:37:53 AM |

last night's episode was great, the narrative arc is really picking up steam. Also Reg E Cathey is perfect as the unscrupulous boxing promoter, and I really dig the title sequence. 1/26/2011 11:56:58 PM |

Tonight's episode was phenomenal in every aspect, this is a fully realized world with nuance and emotional resonance that sets it apart from most other cable dramas. The scenes with Lights and his younger daughter are just devastating, so well acted and written. I hate to single that out because there's so much intriguing stuff going on but I don't have the time or the energy to delve into it at the moment. 2/9/2011 2:34:21 AM |

Last night's episode really stepped it up. This series has consistently gotten better each week and if it can maintain this level of performance the rest of the season, this will be a great show. 2/9/2011 11:05:43 AM |

This outing was a master class in execution, since there was very little movement in the overall narrative arc but it was still a very engaging hour of television. There were a bunch of really nice shading moments with some of the supporting characters (Johnny in particular) that help to flesh out the universe that the show is portraying. The deeper into the season that I get the more the flaws of The Fighter stand out in comparison, because this show is really fucking good and does so much more with the limited resources it's afforded.

It was absolutely thrilling to see Lights back in the ring, and the fight scenes were executed quite well. Really enjoyable, visceral episode with charm and style to burn. I do kind of wish they had not used "How You Like me Now", since it just seems derivative of The Fighter when used in a boxing context now.

last week's episode was a bit of a letdown after a couple of really strong outings but this week was a return to form...David Morse was heartbreaking as a former heavyweight champ in the later stages of CTE. 3/23/2011 11:40:16 PM |

no no, but i've been without FX and cable for over a month and my queue is already fairly long. I was only borderline interested in this program after the first couple that I saw so hearing this news will either delay or cancel my intentions of watching the rest of it. Unlike Terriers which I became attached to early and finished watching even after hearing of its demise.3/30/2011 1:17:25 PM |

i like this show
with next week being the finale, i hope they bring closure to the storyline, not leave it dangling and "up to interpretation"
should at the very least be an entertaining bout with Death Row 3/30/2011 5:49:29 PM |

I just watched the finale- good stuff!
I was surprised they didn't focus more on the fight (I mean, they did, but rather that they didn't want to make it a longer fight- I don't feel like Reynolds should have been that toasted that quickly). Sucks they aren't going to continue the series- I liked this one
May it and Terriers rest in peace. 4/7/2011 12:00:01 PM |

Really strong finale, and I thought the fight was more convincing and better choreographed than the Morales fight. Holt McCallany was great again, especially in the confessional, and in the last scene where he asks Teresa "who won?" Also Death Row's wife is a cunt. 4/7/2011 3:57:11 PM |
