Does anyone know if I will fail a safety inspection on my car if the Check Engine Light is on (this is an 85 so it is only a safety inspection and not an emissions)?

Shouldn't matter

But you could find the answer for certain by spending five minutes on Google or calling a service station

didnt want to post a new topic, so i'll hijack this one..

i have a 95 cherokee with a slight exhaust leak. had gone to an NTB to get it inspected, and they faulted me on the leak, failing it. normally, i'd take it to my hometown to get some of the "local guys" to inspect it, but i'm hoping i can avoid the 2.5 hour drive one way, and get it done in the raleigh area. Anyone on here do inspections? (only need safety inspection so i can renew the tags.)

help would be much appreciated.

Do you know where your exhaust leak is located? If it's somewhere in the piping, rather than the manifold, then go to Henry's or Bob's and get it fixed CHEAP. If it's manifold, then the repair ain't gonna be cheap.

Those of us that are inspectors (I'm not, just saying) aren't gonna pass a vehicle that's failed somewhere else unless of course the repair has been done. It's not worth the fine and possible revocation of an inspector's license.

You've probable got one or two broken studs where the intake and the exhaust manifold meet. Maybe not but its common.

appreciate the heads up all. the thing is is that its a 95, so I'm not sure why the guys at NTB even bothered with the emissions test as its not required. Should have known better then to take it to a chain place...

I've had Bob's do a few things before, so that's definitely an option. I figure this is the last inspection I'll have done on this vehicle as it's probably in its last year as me as an owner. 337,000 miles (or something to that effect) makes it about time for retirement...
