Tom Fetzer, who sued to prove he wasn't gay, is finishing his tenure.
Hayes, who has lost elections to Kissell twice in a row now, is running:

Quote : | "Hayes said that along with visiting grandchildren and spending time hunting and fishing, he’s been working recently on a campaign to replace Tom Fetzer, the outgoing state GOP chairman, who has said he plans to resign in January.
... We can take over the White House,” he said." |
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robin_Hayes
Quote : | "He then accused Obama of “inciting class warfare” and said that “liberals hate real Americans that work and accomplish and achieve and believe in God.” [6][7] Hayes repeatedly denied that he had made the statement and accused reporters of "irresponsible journalism", until an audio recording attesting to the statement was released" |
Even so, I think he has a good shot. So far I've only heard that Chad Adams might challenge him, who has more problems:
http://www.citizen-times.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20090613/NEWS01/906130318
Quote : | "Another candidate, Chad Adams, had to deal with circulated e-mails between him and a former mistress." |
http://www.talkingaboutpolitics.com/CommentDiscussionForum/tabid/59/ptid/412/threadid/1694/forumtype/posts/Default.aspx
Quote : | "No, he likes to watch and forward porn to his mistress. Are we supposed to allow him to treat the NCGOP as his playground? It is established and documented he used the Locke Foundation assets during the course of his affair. Just what will he do with NCGOP assets and reputation? You have to wonder about the other emails that have not been made public and who has them." |
But Chad has head up a county chairmanship, which seems like a natural stepping stone to a larger party chairman ship, so qualifications wise I think he might be in the lead. And someone who has worked on that level might be more local/state focused rather than national politics focused like Hayes.
Who am I missing? Is there anyone else who is definitely or likely to run? Timothy Johnson I doubt will run again after the felony troubles last time. Surely there tdubbers more familiar with the NC GOP than myself who can speak to who else might run?12/2/2010 2:12:35 AM |

For the libertarians, I'll hang...

^^ Hayes defeated Kissell in 2006 and lost to him in 2008, how is that losing elections to Kissell twice in a row?

^Got him confused with Johnson. I knew he had run twice. My bad. Looked it up. It was only one loss in 08, and barely a win in 06 by 329 votes. 12/2/2010 3:46:30 PM |
