These guys seem to be getting results in European nations.

The Tea Party has been sucked into the Republican party, but at least it got them talking about fiscal responsibility and limited government(if only talking). I wonder if we could see a similar Pirate Party influence from the younger generation into the Democrats. Might be enough to make me actually bother to vote.

Nah, probably not.

Apparently there is an United States Pirate Party (USPP) but failed to get sufficient votes the last election cycle. I don't know exactly how much they could mobilize though: looking briefly at their platform, it seems they have a very narrow focus on copyright and trademark issues which I believe would be difficult for mobilizing large numbers of people. I suppose you could try to rally people with the greater transparency clause, but until they tighten that to a few concrete measures, I don't know if you can fire people up with it.

I doubt the Democratic Party would embrace the Pirate Party like the Republicans did the Tea Party. Tea Party is kinda crazy but their core values dovetail with major issues on the Republican agenda; the Pirate Party on the other hand doesn't really fit into any of the Democrats main issues.

Still, it would be interesting to see them get some traction here.

The Pirate Party would gain larger acceptance if they became more generally anti-corporate. Politics in the 21st century won't be right vs left, but corporations vs. individuals.

But Democrats are corporate shills, so introducing Pirates into the party would be as painful as the tea party was to republican incumbents.

Most reasonable people believe anyone should be able to make a living providing goods or services that others want.

The pirate party thinks anyone producing software, art, or entertainment should do it out of the kindness of their hearts.

I don't think they will find too many voters in America.

I think their position is more that creativity should be quickly distributed for the betterment of all, with any monetary rewards being reasonable, limited and more importantly going directly to the creator. It is their position that the current copyright system is perverse, with middlemen extending profits long after the death of content creators to the significant detriment of society.
