What is a good enterprise remote desktop/management program that you use? I am in an educational environment and need suggestions from anybody with experience, esp. in this area. We are currently using Dame Ware for remote, and have tested Faronics Insight. Has anybody else tried these or have a better solution? The biggest problem with Insight is the license would only give us one admin console, but must be run by at least a staff of 4. It does give a thumbnail view of all the computers desktops, which Dame Ware does not currently do. Also it seems a little more laggy than it should be compared to programs like remote desktop when connecting to the same computer. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. 12/10/2010 3:51:59 PM |

yeah, logmein rescue seems like a more enterprise-esque option. Never used that one though. https://secure.logmeinrescue.com/US/HelpDesk/Home.aspx 12/10/2010 4:54:42 PM |

I use Logmein for my personal computer usage, but not sure how it would scale for access to 120+ PCs. 12/11/2010 12:11:01 PM |

I've heard that Logmein is decent, but I can't remember who told me that. 12/11/2010 12:50:45 PM |

Can anybody tell me if you get one annual sub for LogMeIn Rescue, does that allow multiple users to access the program, esp. simultaneously, or do you have to have a separate license for each? 12/11/2010 2:05:16 PM |

I use Echo for the 300 or so desktops we admin. It has some struggles occasionally, but the boss loves free shit, and it's given me an opportunity to embrace open source. 12/12/2010 11:41:55 PM |

I did some research on and off for a couple of months now and I ultimately decided to go with TeamViewer. LMI Rescue is nice, but at 80/month it can get expensive. There's no stipulation with LMI free for corporate environments, so you can technically install that version on all 120 of your computers and maybe buy LMI Central for 300 bucks to manage them all. If you can convince them to shell out for a couple pro licensees you can do a lot of cool stuff now such as batch installs and mass updates etc.
TV is 1500 bucks one time and you can install to as many computers as you want. They have a management interface as well and a pretty nifty and customizable quick support module. Come to think of it, our two weeks ends tomorrow so it's time to cut a check for that invoice.
If you decide to go with Teamviewer, I have an affiliate code that gets you 3% off, which really just negates the foreign transaction fees and such that you'll have to pay.
I'm also on the quest to find a good Helpdesk CMS. So far I've played around with osticket, spiceworks and just stumbled upon xoop. We'll see how this goes. I'm tired of 4084085 people calling my cell phone for problems.

Actually Teamviewer would probably be about 3.5k if you need to have 4 users simultaneously offering remote support. The $1500 model only includes 1:10 workstation:session count. Corporate is 3:15 with an extra channel being 850 dollarbux.

OTRS is an open source ticket system that will allow for email-to-ticket creation, graphs, ticket notes, etc. It just sucks for inventory.
I've heard good things about spiceworks. 12/13/2010 11:27:08 AM |
