Damn, man it's your first year. It shouldn't be that hard to figure something out.

What does your wife like (hobbies, tv shows, movies, etc)?

Might be your last Christmas gift if you keep using the word "cheap"

lol. how bout gifts within our budget. also, its hard as hell to pull any sort of surprise with her since she is a hawk on our bank account. what have yall found to be the best way around that? withdrawing cash? i'm too tempted to do stupid stuff if i have cash on me..

Withdraw cash. Have your own individual account setup so you can buy things without her hawk-eyeing you. Also great for situations like this...

Define "stupid stuff."

If you mean stupid stuff as in you'll go blow $100 on random blurays I would think you could get out of that easier than, say, blowing $100 on strippers (or doing $100 worth of blow on a stripper, har har.

Anyway, I'm going to ignore that it's a little you don't know what your wife would like, regardless of it being your first Christmas, but have you thought of something like making her a really nice dinner and following it up with a long massage, etc? You can go to http://www.southernsavers.com and see what food is on sale at local grocery stores so you don't have to spend a lot of money on the food. As for the massage, just google some techniques and buy a bottle of oil. Done and done

i agree that it's kinda sad that you don't know what she likes. y'all really need to have your own separate bank accounts, then a joint one to pay bills out of, in my opinion. not that you're trying to hide anything, it just seems...idk, healthier or something...to keep separate accounts.

i also liked ^ idea. dinner + massage can be really nice. especially if you CLEAN UP after you cook.

Jewelry? V.S. Gift card? Spa?

Cemetery Plot?

a picture of you two back when you first started dating?

I'm running out of ideas here.

I hate to say this in every gift thread, but do you really need to ask THE INTERNET what to get the woman you ostensibly know enough about that you've agreed to spend the rest of your life with her? Really dude?

If you married her, you should know her. You should love her. It should be no big deal to get something or do something for her that would knock her socks off for no money at all.

Make her something, it's the obvious answer

and it works too, my wife can remember every card I've ever made her but she'll forget what actual gift I got for her birthday a few months ago

Visit shutterfly.com, lulu.com or snapfish.com and create a personalized photo book of your life together.

Pair it with something else that you already know she likes, like a simple piece of jewelry, a plush robe or a cute purse or clutch.

I got my wife a couple of personalized Christmas ornaments to commemorate the wedding and honeymoon, but gave them to her when we got the tree (not as a real Christmas gift per se).

I can't say what to get your wife, but the way I get around this is to buy the gift on our gas credit card. That way she won't have an itemized invoice until after the holiday. Of course, we pay it off when the bill comes, but it keeps it a surprise.

I've got ideas, just was looking for some additional ones. Thanks to those that gave decent responses. Didn't know this was chit-chat.

She's givin me a list of what to get and I know some things to get her that she hasn't told me, but since this is the first year we've been married I didn't know if there were certain things that "you're supposed to get" for the first christmas together.

Cook a meal for Christmas? Seeing how I cook 3-4 nights a week, I don't think that would be very special. The cleaning the kitchen part might be but dang, do some of ya'll really cook your significant others a dinner for Christmas?

And what would be wrong with that? My fiance cooks dinner half the week but if he went all out and made a really nice meal, not the usual weeknight meal, I would really appreciate that. Gifts don't have to be some physical object that eventually just collect dust in a closet

it's probably too late now (or you might already have them) but last year at Christmas we were engaged... I got us matching stockings with our names and a bunch of her favorite candy, pens, other small gifts in hers so we could have them for this year

1. Wow, you actually have to receive a list of what to get her? Not, ya know, what she would like? Personally, I see a big difference between someone saying, "This is my Christmas wish list" versus, "This is what you are getting me for Christmas." Maybe I'm reading too much into what you wrote... but I really hope you're intending to say wish list.

2. I think you're in a bad place to be judging those of us who cook really nice meals for our s.o.'s for Christmas, or whatever holiday, when you can't even think of what to get your wife. Sure I could have bought my fiance' some bluray for Valentine's Day, but I'm pretty sure he appreciated the filet minon and super yummy dinner more than some random gift.

itt people act like no one ever responds less than well to a gift you thought was thoughtful and well-picked for that person

Um, OP... You need a bank account that belongs just to you, that you can ferret away money into. This money is for special occasions, anniversary presents, surprises, secret slush fund for when you get divorced and lose have your stuff because you can't pick out presents for the woman you apparently care enough about to MARRY.

Just a thought

Lots of people saying how dumb jmpack is but not offering suggestions (perfect example -spookyjon's post).....it's harder than you think.

Well he said cheaply....it's really easy to blow money and buy some expensive shit that all women will like.

And yes he really is in a place to be judging. It sounds like he goes that extra mile all the time not just on Dec 25th. A cooked meal really is nothing special when you cook all the time through out the year.

My wife likes stuff like massages. If all else fails find a reputable place, get a one hour massage package. Should be around $50. Unless she is not comfortable with her body, I'm sure she'll like it. Maybe add some type of personal gift you created for her like a picture frame with a few pictures for her desk. Stuff like that seems to go over well with women.

all depends on what she likes and is into.

is there something she does everyday that could be made easier by something? (gadget, etc. an no a iron is not the way to go here)

is there something you can do that she's been mentioning over and over that she would like to get done if she had the time or something?

those would be cheaper things i would think.

no there is no 'obligatory' first year gift.
