You've gotta love when the FCC circumvents congress to "fix" something that isn't broken.

How would you know if your internet provider were already slowing down your traffic to certain websites or based on content type? (Hint: They are.)

I for one am looking forward to further FCC interference and regulation in the free exchange of ideas.

"Still, Genachowski’s portrayal of the order may be half right: The FCC’s move on net neutrality is not really about ideology. It’s about authority: He’s not so much protecting values as expanding the FCC’s regulatory reach. According to Genachowski’s summary remarks, the new rules call for a prohibition on “unreasonable discrimination” by Internet Service Providers—with the FCC’s regulators, natch, in charge of determining what counts as unreasonable. In theory, this avoids the pitfalls that come with strict rules. But in practice, it gives the FCC the power to unilaterally and arbitrarily decide which network management innovations and practices are acceptable—and which ones aren’t.

It’s the tech-sector bureaucrat’s equivalent of declaring, Judge Dredd style, “I am the law!” Indeed, Genachowski has said before—and reiterated today—that the rules will finally give the FCC the authority to play “cop on the beat” for the Internet.

The comparison may not be quite as comforting as he seems to think. But it is telling: Genachowski may not be eager to tell the public exactly what the Internet’s new rules of the road are, but he’s mighty eager to have his agency enforce them."

Stupid hyper-capitalists think the internet is private.

Dumb, dumb, dumb.

Get a fucking clue, you fucking idiots. People like you are the reason socialism is taking hold.

(I'm a libertarian, have always voted libertarian whenever possible, and fully support net neutrality.)

clear the way for usage fees

I can visualize instances where a company like netflix is hurt because of increase costs to stream their movies via the "internet" vs TWC on demand movies on "TV"

Yeah, maybe you're right. The government has never abused its power, and has time and time again proven to be a fair, unbiased regulator, never granting favors to the "right" corporation, or burying special loopholes deep in omnibus legislation that no one will ever read.

I get where you're coming from on this. The internet is "public domain," giving the government the right to regulate it. Undoubtedly, many of the telcom corps out there have some pretty awful customer service and usage policies. We've essentially given a tiny, elite group (FCC) the power to regulate, and we don't even know what powers they've given themselves yet. This was not done through the proper channels. This was done by a few bureaucrats that are wholly unaccountable to the "public," who this is allegedly for the benefit of.

Maybe if net neutrality was regulated in a way that you or I could oversee, it'd be a good thing. You're blindly trusting the FCC to do the right thing here, though, and you must know that won't happen. They will abuse this new power, they will infringe upon liberty, and they won't think twice about doing it.

Oh, I agree with your point. I am a libertarian. In general, fuck the FCC.

I'm just saying that, above all else,
