I thought there were going to be two separate (and confusing) Lotus teams this year? Or is that for the 2012 season?

Also I'm kinda bummed that they're switching to fucking 4 cylinder engines next year

Its 2012. and i like the idea of 4 bangers.
Who runs ultra low displacement v8s in a street car? So what can their lessons learned do for the real world?

I blame it on politically connected "green" fucks that have influence on F1 that think racing in its current form is "destroying the earth"

^^^^^ eh, F1 cars are so far removed from street cars, I don't think small displacement V8s are really too big of a sin, even if you are concerned with that.

I don't understand the uproar over 4 pot turbos. Actually I understand it perfectly, your idea of F1 encompasses only the last few years or so & you're clueless to the history of the sport. Thats my assumption anyway.

As far as I'm concerned this is nothing new or different. We've had small displacement turbo 4 & 6s before, maybe we'll have v12s again in the future. In any case its just another evolution of the sport. No big deal, I won't throw a fit until everything is electric.

^Yes, HRT withdraws... from FOTA. Not from Formula 1. Also nothing to get excited about.

Quote :
"Robert Kubica will be out of action for up to a year following his crash in a rally event in Italy. However, it is possible the injuries he suffered may bring down the curtain on his Formula One career.

Prof Igor Rossello, who operated on Kubica at the Santa Corona hospital, said the lengthy operation involved the "reconstruction [of] the whole anatomy of the forearm". He continued that while the operation on Kubica's badly-damaged hand had gone well, the next five to seven days were crucial as it was in that period that things could still go wrong.

When pressed, Rossello said it would be a year before Kubica can hope to have proper use of his right arm again, although he added "drivers are always very special patients".

Earlier, comments from his agent, Daniele Morelli, had raised worries that his career was in the balance. He said that surgeons were "trying to restore the functions of his right hand," adding: "They have already revascularised the limb and repaired the bone structure. Now they have to think about the muscular functions but Robert has strong character and he will make it."

If the operation is unsuccessful or only partially works, then he may be left with limited functionality and feeling in his hand. At a time drivers are being asked to press more and more buttons on the steering wheel, this would be very serious.

Kubica's wrecked Skoda after his rally accident © Associated Press Enlarge The fractures will heal, although given Kubica already has titanium bolts in his left arm following an accident in 2003 there may well be complications. But tendon damage is much harder and there is also no means of speeding his recovery.

It now seems clear Kubica will not race this season. But the real fear is that he may not return at all.

Many drivers have restrictions in their contracts as to what they can do off track in terms of risky sports or hobbies. Renault did not ban Kubica from rallying as being able to continue was a key part of any contract for him. As recently as November, Morelli said the big teams such as "McLaren, Red Bull, Ferrari or Mercedes wouldn't allow it." How Renault must be wishing it had been a little more insistent. "

There is a rumor that Bruno Senna or Romain Grosjean will drive Lotus Renault, but also a rumor that Lotus Renault wants more experienced driver such as Nick Heidfeld or Vintaonio Liuzzi.

I really really hope Kubica will be able to drive F1 again.

The Bahrain GP is cancelled!
http://en.espnf1.com/bahrain/motorsport/story/41504.html
Quote :
"The Bahrain Grand Prix has been postponed because of the ongoing unrest inside the state. A statement this afternoon issued on behalf of Bahrain's Crown Prince said Bernie Ecclestone had been advised of the decision earlier in the day.

The announcement referred to a postponement rather than a cancellation but it is hard to see how the race could be rescheduled inside an already busy end-of-season calendar.

"At the present time the country's entire attention is focused on building a new national dialogue for Bahrain," the Crown Prince said. "Although Bernie Ecclestone had graciously made clear that a decision on the race was entirely Bahrain's to make and was not yet required, we felt it was important for the country to focus on immediate issues of national interest and leave the hosting of Bahrain's Formula One race to a later date.

"After the events of the past week, our nation's priority is on overcoming tragedy, healing divisions and rediscovering the fabric that draws this country together; reminding the world of the very best that Bahrain is capable of as a nation once again united."

The final round of testing which was set to start on March 3 has been cancelled as well. The teams are due to meet in Barcelona later today to decide an alternative location.

"It's sad that Bahrain has had to withdraw from the race," Ecclestone told the BBC. "We wish the whole nation well as they begin to heal their country. The hospitality and warmth of the people of Bahrain is a hallmark of the race there, as anyone who has been at a Bahrain Grand Prix will testify. We look forward to being back in Bahrain soon."

The season will now start with the Australian Grand Prix on March 27."

I remember the top gear segment but it's definitely worth watching again. You're engrossed after about 2 minutes.

I also heard a rumble about it being at Sundance, and that people in the selection committee who had never heard of Formula 1, and had zero interest in cars were absolutely blown away by the movie.

Not the BBC documentary. I watched the new movie in Japan because it was released last year. Japanese title was "Ayrton Senna: Beyond the Speed of Sound."

I strongly recommend you guys to watch it...
