We are thinking of checking out First Night Raleigh for New Years Eve. Do we need to buy the admission button just to walk up and down Fayetteville St, check out the People's Procession, and watch the fireworks and acorn drop?
Or is the button only to enter venues where there are performances. I'm really confused and hope someone who's been to the event in the past can clarify.
thanks! 12/31/2010 2:32:00 AM |

I wish I could clarify it for you but I've never been.
I just wanted to point out that "First Night Raleigh admission question" is a statement or description of the thread's content. It is not a question, so why did you put a question mark behind it? (Note that I used a question mark because I asked you something.) 12/31/2010 9:03:57 AM |

^ be nice now.
I haven't been in years, but when I worked the event in 2002 you only needed buttons to get into venues (volunteers were posted at the doors to check buttons). You could see the stuff in the street for free. 12/31/2010 9:52:36 AM |

I was just down there as they were setting up. When did they move First Night to Fayetteville Street?
Anyway, it looked like they had the button booth set up across from the Oxford and they were setting up some sort of checkpoint thing, so I'm assuming you need a button to get past that point. 12/31/2010 1:26:22 PM |

I'd like to take a moment to thank TenaciousC who actually focused on the question at hand.
We ended up going to First Night Raleigh 2011 and the button was not needed for anything along Fayetteville St including street vendors and the acorn drop and fireworks. The street was packed. We thoroughly enjoyed the festivities and will be back. 1/4/2011 5:18:49 PM |
