I'm cleaning out my closest and getting rid of alot of old clothes that are worn out, out of style, don't fit anymore, etc.... and I was wondering what everyone does with their old clothes. ALOT of mine don't fit anymore and are in perfect shape (some I have probably never worn or just worn once or twice). In the past I have taken them in boxed to the Salvation Army and gotten receipts for them for tax deductions. Is there something better to do with them? anyone had success selling clothes on ebay or CL? What suggestions do you have for me TWW?

(unless they are worth several hundred dollars, give them to poor people)

goodwill or similar organization (urban ministries, salvation army, etc etc etc etc etc. hell, there are even places that will take your shit and ship it to kids in africa if you wanna one up everyone) is the best option, in my opinion.

i guess i might consider selling something on ebay if it were like, a designer purse or something that i just didn't like anymore and that was worth several hundred dollars on its own. other than that, i just give everything to goodwill.

if the ones you have that are in "perfect shape" are still in style and worth something (ie not like a t-shirt from target), you could try amazon/ebay for those items if you are really wanting the cash.

salvation army, goodwill, amvets, and any local thrift stores that benefit certain causes/people are always a good option. Especially local places, because they might not be as well known as goodwill et al to get a decent amount of donations.

(ie: there was a thrift store in Charleston with the sole purpose of generating funds for the local women's shelter.)

There is a drop bin at the Western Blvd K-mart.

People are idiots with all that tax deduction crap, they let you put a value on whatever you turn in an write the receipt yourself, if you do not itemize it does not matter anyway. How about do the right thing just because its the right thing to do, you probably gonna was more gas trying to find the good will store than if you just donated it.

^ The Goodwill near my parents place they fill out the receipt for you for some reason. Maybe the woman working the drop-off counter that day was just being a bitch

Cause for Pause on South Saunders is always looking for donations. You don't have to deal with a person unless you want a receipt

Planet Aid only donates like a quarter of every dollar to charitable causes.

Mostly, they keep it for themselves.

^ yea you want to investigate that kind of stuff and make sure that you are donating to places where the most money actually gets to the people that need it.

Wouldn't be surprised if a lot of their donations are sold in bulk to Southeast Asia which in turns sells them for $texas in "vintage" stores.

I don't care where the clothes go. I just want them out of my house. The planetaid box is at Welcome to sweet campus store next to the waffle house if anyone else cares.

Ladies, the Interact women's shelter for domestic violence welcomes donations of women's and children's clothing. It's also a good place for things like that fancy bath product gift that someone gave you that you're allergic to. It's not to far from State.

InterAct
1012 Oberlin Road
Raleigh, NC 27605

Always accepting:
Gently used women's and children's clothing
Accessories, such as jewelry, belts and purses
Shoes for women and children
Used cell phones

Seriously, some of these ladies flee with nothing but the clothes that they and their tots are wearing. It's a good place, and it keeps it local.
