One of my favorite family traditions was that we would wake up and go to Mass on Sunday mornings at 9 am (not that part). Mass never really lasted all that long so we would usually get out around 10 am or maybe a little bit later. After shaking the priests hand and fighting the traffic to get out of there we would go and get Chik-Fil-A breakfast every week. It was always fantastic.

Post your favorite family traditions.

^^Is Chik-fil-a being closed on Sundays a relatively recent thing? I remember them being closed as a teenager

Chik Fil A has NEVER been open on a Sunday. If my memory serves me correctly, even the one at North Hills (way back when most of you were makin' doodies in your britches) was closed on Sunday.

Oh, and our favorite family tradition is getting into shouting matches that damn near come to blows...

yeah, I don't see the company having become any more religious as time passed and deciding that being open on a sunday is a bad thing

we would eat black eyed peas (along with corn bread) on new years day in a big pot that had a dime in it. anyone who managed to find the dime in their bowl would have good luck for the whole year. i kinda cheated once to get it the one and only time ive managed to...and ive seemed to have shitty luck before and after

Every year at Thanksgiving my dad reads an excerpt from Ben Franklin's autobiography in which he goes and meets some indians to write a treaty but mostly ends up giving a hilarious account of their alcoholism. The funniest passage involves the morning after when they come to apologize for their behavior, which goes something like this:

"First they apologized but excused their behavior by blaming the rum. Then they excused the rum by saying that the great spirit had created all things for a purpose, and the purpose of rum was for indians to get drunk with."

Every year it gets a laugh.

We used to go to Pizza Hut for thanksgiving when my my sister and I were young. No point in cooking a big bird and fixins for 3 people when kids like pizza more anyway. The place was always empty.

Every Christmas my dad's whole side of the family (him, his 4 sisters, all their spouses, and all 12 cousins) draws names for gifts. The gifts have to be a certain theme (this past year's was dealing with food).

But the fun part is you have present the gift via a song from another theme (we've had a crapload of themes, this past year's I think was a motown song). After everyone has had some drinks in them, its a fantastic hilarious time

Bloody Marys on Christmas Morning.

The first time they did it I was 10.

I saw them drinking and I asked what they were drinking and they told me.

I said, "Nothing says the birth of the Lord Jesus Christ like a Bloody Mary" and my Mom fell on the floor laughing.
