les miles would be stupid to leave LSU. i can't blame a guy for returning to his alma mater, especially when it's a program like michigan, but i don't think there's any way that he can do as well there as he has at LSU given how bad of a coach he is. michigan recruits well, but not like LSU. 1/10/2011 9:48:54 PM |

Scout.com Recruiting Class Rankings
2010 UM - 12 LSU - 7
2009 UM - 14 LSU - 3
2008 UM - 6 LSU - 7
2007 UM - 10 LSU - 5
2006 UM - 9 LSU - 7
2005 UM - 2 LSU - 19
2004 UM - 5 LSU - 2
2003 UM - 8 LSU - 2
2002 UM - 19 LSU - 15
Avg. UM - 9.44 LSU - 7.44
Okay edge LSU, but it's not like they are blowing them away in the recruiting rankings. It's not like LSU is always bringing in top 5 classes and Michigan is always bringing in fringe top 25 classes. 1/10/2011 10:06:22 PM |

well first of all, those numbers are questionable b/c both UM and LSU are bigtime football names, and these rankings are based on player evaluations, which are often based on offers.
but rankings aside, you can't recruit a team full of fast, strong guys at UM like you can at LSU.
i'd be interested to see D1 prospects out of louisiana vs. michigan. i know those numbers exist but i can't find them right now.

as a fan, i would be happy to have him... not saying he will be a guaranteed success... but i think its a successful hire 1/11/2011 12:40:24 AM |

^ agreed... UM could do a lot worse for this hire. Les was lucky to inherit a good LSU team from Saban... if he takes over I hope he can complete more of a turnaround job at UM. 1/11/2011 7:51:10 AM |

If he leaves LSU fans can blame themselves. They were about to throw him under the bus despite the fact he just kept on winning and had a great season with a team that wasnt all that great especially offensively most of the year. Cant blame him for leaving when LSU fans have such high expectations and after the past few years UM would be extremely happy with a 10 win season. 1/11/2011 8:14:15 AM |

I think this would be a huge hire for Michigan. Way better than whoever is the next name on the list. Hes a big name who can bring in big time recruits, he has been able to compete year in and year out in the SEC, so even if he doesnt build as good of a program in Michigan, he should have a lot more success than RichRod 1/11/2011 10:35:58 AM |
Dammit100 All American 17605 Posts user info edit post |
the problem for whoever they hire is going to be re-building the roster to a bigger, more traditional team. Rodriguez brought in a bunch of smaller, speedy guys who don't necessarily excel at their positions, they're just solid athletes. 1/11/2011 10:52:01 AM |

^^ Hiring a coach to keep a player from leaving is about the dumbest thing imaginable. Clemson did that with jackass Dabo to keep Spiller from going pro and they are already starting to regret it. WVU did it Stewart in order to help keep Devine around IIRC.

whoa man relax,,, you are wrong... the last thing he was hired for was to keep around denard... he's a defensive minded coach with a spread offense coordinator but IF you would have been correct, then yes thats dumb to hire a coach to keep just one player

Its true Geeetar....Devin's there, just not as sold on his passing abilities yet. At least with Forcier in there, you could be assured the offense would still function. So far Devin's been more of a "wildcat" option except in the Bowling Green game where he threw it 10 times. 1/13/2011 7:26:32 AM |

Rodriguez's coaching shirts, hats and jackets will be among the items sold Saturday at the charitable organization's store in Wayne, Mich.
"We're going to sell everything from six bucks to, I don't know, maybe we'll auction off a couple of the jackets," Aren told the Free Press. "It'll be for not much more than 25 percent what they'd pay at a store."
Aren said Rodriguez declined an invitation to sign autographs at the sale.
"He kind of took a deep breath and said his buddies are probably going to take him someplace warm this weekend," Aren told the newspaper.

Gotta love Hoke coaching against SDSU in wk.4.
I don't know that 8-4 is delusional. 10-2 would be, but I think the Ws and Ls you have there seem pretty reasonable. Northwestern and MSU back to back on the road won't be easy, and I wouldn't be shocked if they both were losses.
With such a different mindset from Hoke as opposed to DickRod, I could see some early stumbles. I think absolute worst case is 5-7, and were I pressed to guess, I'd say 7-5. 2/15/2011 2:05:45 PM |
