Quote : | "After the election, contention developed between two different groups, one supportive of Lieberman and one critical of him, with each faction asserting that it controlled the party.
On August 9, 2006, the day following the primary, Lieberman supporter Stuart R. Korchin changed his party registration to Connecticut for Lieberman.[6] The change was not entered in the state's electronic voter database, however.[7]
On November 15, 2006, John Orman changed his party registration from Democratic to the Connecticut for Lieberman Party, having been told by the Secretary of State that there were no registered party members.[7] Orman, a professor of politics at Fairfield University, had briefly challenged Lieberman for the Democratic U.S. Senate nomination in 2006.[8][9]" |
As you can see, they got off to a rocky start, with various wings of this party having their own disputes in the past. But there is shocking news out today. One of the most well known Connecticut for Lieberman Party members, or Liebermantarians as I like to think of them, is announcing his retirement: Joe Lieberman. TPM has the scoop:

Quote : | "An increasing number of reports are indicating that Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-CT), who is set to announce tomorrow whether he will run again, will ultimately announce that he is retiring in 2012." |
The polls weren't looking up for him though:

Quote : | "If the candidates for US Senate in 2012 were Independent Joe Lieberman, Democrat Chris Murphy, and Republican Peter Schiff who would you vote for?
Joe Lieberman ................................................ 19% Chris Murphy .................................................. 39% Peter Schiff ..................................................... 25% Undecided....................................................... 17%" |

Farewell you noble giant of the Connecticut for Lieberman Party. I can only hope another Liebertarian will step up to fill those shoes.
