I want to ride. I'll be honest. Some hot summer days i'd love to hop on my bike and ride with some friends. I'm huge fan of SoA, and just general bike culuture. I've never owned a bike but always wanted one. I am not partial to the type of bike but some sort of sport bike would be ideal for me. Summer is coming and i've got about 11k saved up in the bank and its burning a hole. I could easily drop 3-4k on a bike and some gear and ride.
The negatives: I have lost two friends to motorcycle wrecks. My grandfather is retired police officer and has seen some pretty bad wrecks. I also have a c5z06 vette. It's sort of my toy now (cam, exhaust). I don't drive it much and I owe about 8k on it. I'm currently seeing a girl and we'll probably be living together soon...not sure if that'll be followed up by a ring and a "house"..those are still big IFs. 1/19/2011 10:11:26 AM |

go for the bike, dude. then you'll quickly realize driving it on the street sucks (in the city anyway). then you'll hopefully come do some track days, learn to actually ride, and realize how much driving on the street as a whole sucks balls that should be motivation enough to sell your vette and actually put money back in your wallet. win/win imo 1/19/2011 10:35:07 AM |

99% of motorcycle accidents can be prevented by being a responsible rider and realizing the inherent danger of what you're doing. That means not jumping on liter bike when you get your license endorsement, wearing good gear, and paying attention to your surroundings on the road like you've never done before.
Unfortunately there are plenty of dumb people in big cars that can create unavoidable situations. It doesn't take long on a bike to begin hating almost everyone else on the road.
But fuck it, you gotta go sometime. Do it having fun. ] 1/19/2011 10:43:45 AM |

Yeah, I've been wanting another bike pretty bad for a couple of years. I've been in two unavoidable accidents in the last decade that would have mangled me if I had been on a bike though. You can be the best rider in the world, but you can only do so much to avoid a wreck when someone else makes a mistake. I'm sure BigBlueRam and adam8778 can attest to this. 1/19/2011 11:01:24 AM |

You don't have kids? You should own a motorcycle.
Buy mine. It's cheap, easy, fun, reliable, and it doesn't look wimpy. I don't really want to let it go, but I could use the cash.

Dangerous, yes, but highly satisfying when done properly.
Seeing how you have a "toy" car already, I'd either dump that or carefully consider how much use you'll actually get out of a bike when you don't even drive the car much. If safety is really an issue and you're set on two-wheeled powersports, a cheap track bike will suit your needs perfectly. 1/19/2011 12:42:50 PM |

^^ shit, I have a C5 Z06, too, and TWO motorcycles, haha.
I say pay off the 'vette, though. Then, start saving money and buy a motorcycle with cash. 1/19/2011 7:02:49 PM |
