Currently my domain is managed through enom central but the cost to renew the domain registration is going to be 35 bones a year. This is way too high and I know theres got to be a cheaper option but pricing on this stuff is a pain in the ass to actually find on the websites without opening an account and jumping through the hoops. Anyone have any suggestions on cheap domain transfers/renewals? I've got my hosting separate btw so don't need hosting changes. 2/3/2011 3:39:35 PM |

i had this happened to me when hassell's hosting went to shit, my domain got stuck with some jew company and they wanted a ton of money to renew.
It took several emails but they finally unlocked the domain, i moved it to my current hoster, then renewed up for 15$.

I'm with godaddy simply because of their admin interface. 1and1 is probably a bit cheaper, but they're a PAIN to deal with. Godaddy, of course, has like 10 hoops to dance through as they try and sell you hosting and a small pink bus that runs on penguin droppings. Just keep clicking no and you'll get on through for cheap.
Whatever you do, DO NOT under any circumstances purchase from A.I.T. They're located here in Fayetteville and they're absolute tools. Our domain expired for a few hours and they 'automatically' purchased it again for us... and then charged us like $300 to get it back, plus the (then) $10 to renew. Then they took their dear sweet time letting it propagate through their system and my 4 sites were down for almost a week. 2/3/2011 3:44:43 PM |

we use godaddy at work. their admin interface is kind of annoying. but they're priced ok. I've never had a problem with upselling and their support has always been good to me. If i really wanted to I'd probably move to a cheaper registrar. We host our DNS ourselves so we dont need much beyond domain registration. But it aint broke so im not fixing it.
Also use godaddy for ssl certs.

anybody know anything about register.com's reputation? i suggested namecheap to a friend, but they found some coupon for register.com. i suspect they probably have higher renewal rates or something, but i can't seem to find their actual rates on their site 1/17/2012 11:15:25 PM |

Be sure not to use Moniker or Dotster: They cooperated with the Feds in handing over MegaUpload's domain names. 1/19/2012 9:25:30 PM |
