Well dang. That's pretty awesome--I never really knew much about what was on that side of Hillsborough before the current buildings (and for some reason I would have guessed that the Electric Company Mall end predated the 60's.) I love the art moderne styling of the place and how the entire facade is reflective (I'm guessing ceramic or bakelite tiles like on the old Nehi bottling plant next to the Wilmont?); too bad it burned. Though then we wouldn't have the current incarnation of Western Lanes, which while nowhere near as nice externally, is 60's-tastic inside. 2/12/2011 11:59:55 PM |
