in here i will post things that i would like your opinion on.
im ready to be trolled so bring it.
my first one: cody and my wedding guest list is getting to be a bigger than expected. a lot bigger. not the venue cant handle it bigger, but almost to capacity bigger. so my question to you....if you came to a wedding that was a little crowded...what would you think?
[Edited on February 13, 2011 at 8:35 AM. Reason : i mean would it be THAT bad? we're ready to hire extra waiters and bartenders and whatnot....] 2/13/2011 8:34:21 AM |

Fewer people will be able to make it than you plan for, obviously. Just make sure you have enough seats/food/booze and support staff and you should be fine. 2/13/2011 8:48:21 AM |

^yeah we will have enough regardless
im just thinking about the crowdness factor
i mean its no big deal but i was just curious 2/13/2011 8:51:07 AM |

is the venue big enough? as long as people can go in and out of the building, those who are uncomfortable with the crowd should be fine. 2/13/2011 9:02:21 AM |

its the preston woodall house. its a nice size venue, old historic house with a ballroom.
im probably making a bigger deal out of it than i should be...at least thats what cody and my mom tell me  2/13/2011 9:46:14 AM |

Would you have to nix ideas to invite more people? Like would there still be room for a dance floor (if you are planning on having dancing)?
Would you have to change the style of your reception? Like instead of sit-down tables, you would have to switch to standing cocktail tables? 2/13/2011 9:50:31 AM |

^^we dont know yet, my family compromises of at least 100 people alone :/
^ we are meeting with tenting people this week to tent areas for standing, eating, etc...theyll be clear, air conditioned tents connected to the ball room so hopefully not much will change 2/13/2011 9:54:53 AM |

Yeah, those tents are sweet.
I worked an event one time with a tent that had two stories. It was sweet but very pricey. Very similar to this:

Our venue held 112 people...we invited 180. ~ 125 rsvp'd yes but only ~110 came (including bridal party which was perfect)
This stressed me out to no end, the only thing that did really with planning, but it all worked out.
Looking at pictures, it didn't appear crowded at all I think you'll be okay. 2/13/2011 10:02:11 AM |

the wedding i went to was about 200 people, sit down, with large tables. They set up the bar in the adjoining room but i never felt super crowded except while sitting at the tables during the meal. 2/13/2011 10:02:59 AM |

you will be fine. It will just seem like a good party. I am sure some won't make it last minute. We had ours in Greystone in Durham, and got a tent b/c of the extra people, but no one really went out there. I am sure it will not be a problem at all. Also we had sooo much food left over too. 2/13/2011 11:09:09 AM |

i wouldnt be too worried about a crowded wedding, weddings don't last more than 15-20 minutes or so, from what i remember in the 3 ive been in
i guess it depends on the type of wedding 2/13/2011 2:38:00 PM |

Also, what will the weather be? Is there space for people to step outside and get some air? If there is, then it sounds fine.

We had about 225 at our wedding and it was too many - our rehearsal dinner was about 65
If we could do it over again we would have trimmed at least 50 people 2/14/2011 5:26:57 AM |

I can't even fathom spending so much money on a wedding.
Oh wait.. I get it.
Spend $20 per guest and hope for a $30+ wedding present = profit! 2/14/2011 5:38:02 AM |
OmarBadu zidik 25071 Posts user info edit post |
I'd consider 20 per guest to be on the low side of a typical wedding even if you are just counting the reception and not the actual wedding since you typically don't spend too much on guests for the ceremony 2/14/2011 5:53:37 AM |

As long as there is an option of grabbing some space when you need it crowded parties are still parties, and your wedding should be a party. People will be forcibly less bored and everyone will be happier for that. Now, as far as that two story tent...shit makes me nervous. Who put it together? How much weight does that upper floor support? DID FAT UNCLE JOE JUST GO UP THE STAIRS? 2/14/2011 9:28:02 AM |

i dont know, we're meeting with tenters this week to a .have a plan to still have it outside if it rains and b. tent for more room (there are several large areas that are connected that would look great )

lol, 20 is a little on the low side (as was said before) and we are pretty sure we wont be asking for gifts
and yeah, im sorry i bothered yall with this! i was still a little tipsy from the residual alcohol the night before

i went to a wedding a few years ago that was quite crowded (i think they had reached the capacity and had to squeeze in every last chair). and yeah it was kind of tight but no one really minded or noticed. everyone still had a really good time.2/14/2011 12:41:49 PM |

Depends on the feel. If it's even remotely stuffy I'd leave ASAP. If it's a big party with tons of sauced up people I'd drink my ass off and wear the lampshade5/5/2011 10:46:52 AM |
