How long will you wear a certain piece of clothing before washing it? Underwear is a once but i will wear the same pants 4-5 times before washing them.

until there's some sort of smell or stain/mark.

if it's just wrinkled i'll pop it in the dryer with a damp towel for 15min.

if it's jeans, I can usually get in 3 wears before I feel dirty when wearing them. Everything else is pretty much a once-then-wash situation.

t shirts, socks and underwear are all once.

pants i wear until they're stretched out in the knees and need to be shrunk back in the dryer.

everything else i just let go until it looks like it needs it. i don't think i've ever washed a sweater.

what the hell are you doing in your clothes?

do you just sweat a lot?

(note: one wash per wearing is acceptable for socks, boxers/underwear and undershirts.)

I will wear jeans for weeks on end. I thought this was common practice.

I have a pair of raw denim Levi's I bought back in September. They still haven't been washed, and I wear them at least 4x a week. Jeans should only be washed when absolutely necessary.

As for other pants, I usually wear them 3-4 times between washing unless there's a spill or something.

Button shirts depend on use. If I didn't sweat or get it dirty then I'll hang it back up and wear it again before I wash it.

Underwear/socks/undershirts only get one wear.

I pretty much one wear wash everything unless I run out before laundry. I will scavenge a pair of jeans once or twice. I have waaaay to many clothes why wear something twice when I have tons of clean options.

nothing abnormal. I just get grossed out by dirty clothes. and yes, normal wear and activities gets clothing DIRTY. Especially if you have a dog around. Or spend a lot of time outdoors. Or walk almost everywhere you go. Or ride the subway regularly. The list goes on and on and on...

Am I really the only person that doesn't have the mentality of "If I can't see the dirt, it's not there"?

determined by sweat level, clothing type, and resulting use/smell/stains

undershirts and tshirts - once unless lightly worn (around the house, no stains, no sweat)
underwear once only
socks once only unless worn for less than a few hours
over shirts 1-2 times depending on stains/smell level, if sweat gets to them once
pants - 1-8 based on use, smell, sweat, and stains

whoa, that was a bit too detailed....

I generally wear everything one time then throw it in the trash. Jeans, on the other hand, will get a half evenings worth the wear before I go into the restroom and change into a fresh pair of Sevens. Then I put the old pair in the toilet and try and flush them. If you ever see a pair of jeans while you are out in downtown Raleigh wad up in a toilet, it was probably me.

I just don't feel like the human body is a gross thing that filthifies everything it touches. A shirt that's been worn around the house or work isn't "dirty." seriously!

I have a shitload of clothes too, bhy waste energy/water/time washing something that doesn't need to be washed? I'm not advocating that people run around in nasty clothes, but wearing a shirt for a few hours doesn't mean it is all of a sudden filthy.

Also, jeans look better without being washed (unless you're nasty and get them filthy and stained, or if you're nasty and wear stonewashed jeans).

^ I should get more wears out of my stuff I drive my SO crazy with the laundry I amass. I guess I'm just too lazy, which doesn't make a lot of sense consider 7 loads of laundry is a pain to wash.

What about the other stuff that touches the clothing you wear? I don't feel that something I wear gets dirty because I wore it for a day, but more because I walked the dog a few times, or walked around in the city for a few hours, sat on the disgusting subway for 30+ minutes, cleaned the house, or whatever else came up during the course of my day.

Most people I know do not wear their clothing for just a few hours. I typically get dressed after a shower in the morning, and stay in those clothes until a go to bed. I am usually up for ~18 hours a day, so I honestly fail to see how wearing a shirt for only one day is SO wasteful.

Once on everything.

I've got terrible allergies though and clothes feel dirty to me after a day because they're covered in itch-inducing death, so there's that.

jeans are the only thing i wear more than once between washes

mainly because they are more comfortable when they've been broken in after a couple wears after drying

I wear jeans until they absolutely need to bee washed and if its dry-clean only i will generally wear it more than once if possible. i love that you can't smoke in bars because now i can wear sweaters and stuff more than once, that used to be what caused me to get things cleaned.

Depends on what I'm doing in those clothes. Pants that I wear to class and just wear around...I usually go through 3 pairs in a week (7 days, but they get more wear on M-F). I can longer with jeans, but they usually don't last more than 3 days before I get some coffee or some kind of stain on them. Shirts I wash more frequently. Nicer shirts like button downs or polo shirts, I will usually wear a couple of times before washing. T-shirts are usually dirty, for me, after one day...but I will wear the shirt all day. I might wear it out, but I'll keep it on when I get back to the house. If it were a nicer shirt, like a button down, I would just go hang it up when I got home.

Jeans I'll wear for quite a long time before washing. Thhey're good to go for months at a time (and I pretty much only wear jeans outside of work too).

Undershirts, socks, undershirts, sweaty workout clothes, etc. are pretty much 1 wear and then wash.

Dress pants are usually like 3-5 days.

Dress shirts / polo shirts are usually worn at least 3x before I wash them. I wear undershirts under them and unless I was sweating at work for some odd reason they are not hardly any dirtier than when I took them out of the closet in the morning...I just hang them up as soon as I get home.

Tshirts that aren't undershirts get anywhere from 1-3 wears depending on the time of year and the activity.

I've never understood when people wash every single piece of clothing they wear after 1 day. Different strokes I suppose. For me it has nothing to do with not having enough clothes (I probably have too many); it really just wears the clothes out faster and wastes water/$.
