Do you follow the directions and take it out after two minutes, stir it, and microwave again?

Or do you say, "screw it, I just live..." and microwave it in one go and then stir the crap out of it before eating?

I'm in the latter group

actually i did have that a lot when i was hobbled around with a broke ass leg

trader joe's frozen meals were a godsend

i got good at only making meals i could mix all together in containers and sling into a bookbag with a drink

it's impossible to carry a plate of food on crutches and completely zero use out of one leg

I dont do the thing where it wants you to peel back a corner, take it out, then peel the rest of it off. I just peel back a corner (or poke holes in it) and let it ride.

Yeah I keep them around the office for days I forget to bring my lunch

Also, Trader Joe's mac and cheese is some of the best mac and cheese I've ever had.



It's better than some I've had in restaurants even.

what are the sodium contents on the frozen trader joe's meals? sodium and i don't really get along anymore so i've been watching my sodium intake like a hawk.

The thing I hate about frozen dinners is that they never fill me up. I usually have to eat at least two before I feel satisfied with the amount of food I ate.

If it's pasta or something that I know will get that gross crunchiness to it if I don't stir it, I stir. Anything else I will normally leave and stir at the end.

They do a better job on the sodium level than stuff at the supermarket but it depends on the individual items.

you know, it depends on the item.

lasagna/spaghetti/ other italian dishes? i do not follow the directions, i like the burnt edges
rice meals. im a direction follower

but if i had to choose one...

Restaurant mac 'n cheese... man that's dedication to a particular dish if I ever saw it. I'd never order that because:
1) Mac 'n cheese is easy to make at home.
2) Mac 'n cheese is mac 'n cheese. How much better could a restaurant make it.
3) The restaurant doesn't have something better on the menu besides mac 'n cheese?
4) Last and certainly not least. Mac 'n cheese. $0.25 worth of ingredients, yours for only $6.99 plus tip.

Back on topic. I don't follow the take out, stir, cook come more directions. There's also a "let sit in the microwave for 2-3 minutes to complete cooking" direction that I have never followed. I'm pretty sure it's just a direction they toss on to prevent frivolous lawsuits from people that burn themselves while trying to get their crap out of the microwave.

I mean, yeah if all you've ever had was Kraft Mac & cheese or Stouffer's Mac & Cheese, I can see how you wouldn't be too excited about ordering mac & cheese in a restaurant

But if you've ever had gourmet mac & cheese, you would not feel that way.

Meh. Personal preference. I just think that mac 'n cheese at a restaurant is a waste of effort and money. If I wanted mac 'n cheese I would have stayed at home and made some - likely better and definitely cheaper.

I follow the directions, but the important thing here is I need to stop at Trader Joe's now.

Also, restaurant mac and cheese can be superior because I'm not going to put all the (more) unhealthy shit in there they will, or most times put any effort at all into what I'm making, so it's a treat of sorts.

had the deep fried mac and cheese at REEF weekend before last.

a little dense with the mix of four cheeses (iirc, gruyerre, marscapone, fontina, and something else... buttery and nutty) the rotini was interesting, but the most interesting part was the chili flake crust

I like it when Lean Cuisines call for 5 minutes, but the microwave at work will only do up to 4 minutes. I microwave it for four minutes and there's like three people standing there waiting to use the microwave because, let's face it, I started hogging the thing at exactly 11:58 a.m. to beat all the twelve o'clock folks. So when it beeps the next person in line gets all antsy and walks closer to the microwave, holding their lunch with great eagerness, only to watch me set it for one more minute and walk away.

i used to stop & stir it more frequently than the instructions called for...but one day i got lazy & just decided to follow the directions. it was easier & way better than my stupid method.

Yes, exactly.

For me it's a texture thing. I have tried several recipes for mac and cheese and the texture has always been wrong in the cheese sauce. Some better than others, but none of them just right. I've experienced this at restaurants too. Plus the amount of time it takes to make the roux, then the sauce, then bake, I'd rather make something else with that time and just pop in a Trader Joe's mac and cheese But when you find a great mac and cheese, it's totally worth it.

$3.95 - $6.95 for the larger ones. They also have some great stuff in the refrigerated section. Their raviolis are A+++.

I also recommend these Trader Joe meals since this has turned into a dual thead

I usually just make a pizza from scratch if I'm going to bother with making a pizza. I'd rather get delivery pizza than frozen pizza if going that route
