we are looking at buying a house a little bit more in the outskirts of Raleigh, which will mean about a 30 mile trip to work each way. Used to be this would just mean, "oh man, I'm going to spend more money on gas driving to work", now its like, "we are going to have to change our whole spending budget to accommodate the extra cash it will cost to drive to work"
OR, I could just work from home a couple days a week, or use the company credit card to pay for my gas
either way, it sucks that its even a factor at all 3/2/2011 11:08:29 AM |

Better? I shouldn't be so cynical. I suppose there's hope that prices may drop down to that awesome $3.25 again some day.

The price at the pump right now is fast approaching summer 08 peak prices, this year's summer peak prices will be interesting.

i didnt necessarily limit "better" to lower gas prices
alternative technologies or sources could be "better" as well
i think the breakthrough (and acceptance of) with alternative fuel will come when the oil prices are stiflingly high 3/2/2011 12:12:45 PM |

I so don't miss my '81 Silverado when I'm at the pump these days. It had twin 16 gallon tanks. I remember bitching when the cost of gas first hit $40 to fill it up. Sigh....why can't we have those days again...

^^^ Egypt, Tunisia, Libya and the general uncertainty surrounding all their bullshit. There isn't actually that much of a supply issue but control of the Suez Canal is a big thing to watch.
It's mostly speculators and commodities traders trading up the price like in 2008 right before we had the stock market meltdown. Speculative trading on oil should be illegal. That fucks the world up like crazy. 3/10/2011 6:19:39 PM |

I am a pretty free market guy, but this is just like the horseshit with trading in speculative power production courtesy of Enron. All we have to show for that is grid manipulation in California to drive up the "price" of electricity on the supposition that there was a power problem causing blackouts and a company that was so full of horseshit that it collapsed under its own weight. Fuck them and fuck speculation in these markets. 3/10/2011 9:29:29 PM |
