double edged sword

It's bad when the parents get sick, and miss work
It's bad when the parents get sick, and come into work getting everyone else sick.

i feel very blessed with my immune system, i literally haven't been sick in over 15 years, not even a headache. maybe it has something to do with the fact i've never taken any kind of medicine, so my body hasn't ever been dependent on anything.

how about parents who send their kids to school sick despite having been sent home with a fever the past several days in a row. thanks for thinking of your child's health and the health of everyone around them

One of my coworkers has not made a full week since I started 3 months ago. Apparently talking to some of my other coworkers, he hasn't made a full week in the last 3-4 years. Nice guy, but shit is always happening to him, whether he's sick, sick kids, kids in trouble, ex-wife is being a cunt, etc.

I go to work no matter how sick I am. Screw not getting paid. I could be coughing up and lung and still go to work.

I work at a doctors' office, so at least one co-worker is always sick. Our boss "encourages" us not to call out unless we're dying.

Walkman, he was sick again today. Apparently he has the "flu". I would assume he won't be in tomorrow either. Hard to believe he's made it 10 years here pulling shit like this.

I won't lie, if I had kids and could get a paid day off to stay with them, I wouldn't mind it one bit (except for the whole kid being sick part).

are you fucking kidding me? That is some of the stupidest logic I've ever seen. You're one of those goddamn chucklefucks who probably believes that immunizing kids gives them down syndrome, and you're going to go and not immunize them and then they'll get measles and die.

Easy there, Bobby. Remember, some of us didn't grow up having to iodize tap water just to make sure we don't die from cholera, diarrhoea, paratyphoid fever, bacillary dysentery, hepatitis, poliomyelitis, and/or botulism.

Hey Bob, how about you not instantly jump into asshole mode and assume tons of shit you don't know about. I didn't come in here looking for an argument guys, geez.

For the record, I had cancer when I was much younger (before the age of 5), so yes, I have of course used medicine to some degree. What I was trying to point out is that for the last 20 years or so I have gone out of my way to avoid it because I get sick of people being wussies and acting like they have to take medicine for every little thing. Some of the sickest people I know are the ones who take ten pills a day trying to prevent sickness or feel like they have to take out multiple aspirins for the smallest headache. I don't want to get to the point where my body can't fight off viruses on its own. It's not some stupid christian-scientist logic. I grew up poor as shit, and i'm glad my parents didn't pump us full of medications.

I think the point is that poor people can't afford to freak out and overmedicate over every little thing.

^correct.

obviously when I have kids i'm going to give them medicine when they're sick, but once they're old enough to have more common sense, I don't want them running to a medicine cabinet every time they have the sniffles. If people just stay active and avoid eating like shit all the time, that would help a tremendous amount.

It's cause parents and perscription happy doctors pump kids full of antibiotics before kids immune systems can even get a chance to build up.

it's a big reason

douchebag parents banging on the counter demanding antibiotics for even the slightest little bug

stunting immune system development and ruining the effectiveness of antibiotics for the population at large

FUCK DOUCHEBAG PARENTS

Not saying that's the only reason. I am saying though when parents take their kids to the doctor for every sniffle or cough they have and then the doctor prescribes an antibiotic just to make the parents happy it ruins their immune system and the kids end up sick all the time for the rest of their life.

So really if you want someone to blame, it's the doctors for giving out antibiotics when they're unnecessary.

^^I think you forgot to quote the next sentence.

Quote :
"After stratification for the presence of parental hay fever, children without parental hay fever did not show any significant associations between antibiotics use and asthma or allergy, whereas in children with parental hay fever the use of antibiotics was significantly related with asthma (OR = 2.3, 95% CI 1.1–5.1), hay fever (OR = 2.8, 95% CI 1.5–5.1) and eczema (OR = 1.6, 95% CI 1.0–2.6), and of borderline statistical significance with skin test positivity (OR = 1.6, 95% CI 0.9–3.0)."

I've worked in labs, and now work at a vet clinic (with ambitions for vet school)- working from home is simply not an option (unless, like some vets, I have a house above/next to my practice)

^^ Word. I also wish they'd stop putting triclosan in everything they can think of. Even the company that makes that antibacterial compound admits it's a bad idea to be putting it into plastics and shit.
