I was asked by my girlfriend if I wanted to be on her (and her friend's) coed indoor soccer team a few months ago. I agreed knowing full and well that the probability of winning a lot of games was nil on a team with 5 girls.

We had our first game tonight. We lost 10-1. Here's to a great season!

Switch to keeper, where you have more control over the outcome.

An indoor soccer goal is small enough that all shots are theoretically stoppable.

all shots on any goal "theoretically stoppable" if you are in the right place.

you just mean the goal is smaller and playing keeper is easier. don't dress that shit up.

no, i said it that way for a reason

on a full-size net, even a perfectly positioned goalkeeper cannot physically reach some deflections that go wide of his practical position but not so wide that they miss the net

the indoor net is small enough that a properly positioned keeper can physically reach even the strangest on-goal deflection provide he reacts quickly enough

i deal with the same thing in hockey...a backdoor pass to an open man might have a very low probability of being saved, but the fact that the net is 6x4 means that no shot is out of the realm of being physically stoppable. that possibility does not always exist with a net that's 8x24.

playing keeper in indoor is harder. ive done both. you have to make a hell of a lot more saves in indoor

and the turf is unforgiving

and i would come play for you mr traz, but i has no money

I was wondering how this thread would turn into a debate. Now I know.

it depends on your skill set. in a regular game, the keeper does a lot more distribution than shot stopping, and the indoor game it's all shot stopping with no distribution. i can't place a goal kick to save my life, so indoor suits me better.

We lost 12 or 11 to 4.

Improvement.

We played the best two teams in our division though. It's the rest of the dogshit league teams now including us. Whoop whoop!

Tied last night. 5-5

Also, they sent this email yesterday to our team:

Quote :
"Players

It has come to my attention that we are having a problem with the competitive balance of the strikers.I understand that it is no fun getting smashed week in and week out. The last thing we want at XL is for the paying customer to be unhappy. What has happened with this team does not occur every season, but unfortunately I think one of the problems is the abnormal amount of girls on the team. Please do not take that the wrong way. We generally do not have more than 2 or 3 girls per team. I have spoken to a goalkeeper (Jim T) about playing with your team on Thursday's. As long as his schedule permits, he will do so. Please know that we are trying to remedy the situation.

Thanks"

Our team can't get it together this season, we got torn apart last night. It doesn't help when you are in an over-30 league playing against a bunch of 20-something Mexicans though.
