I knew that Myanmar wasn't metric. That's actually the ONLY thing I knew about them until they got tsunami'd about 6-8 years ago. I actually didn't know they had changed their name from Burma.

I had no idea that Liberia was holding out, too. I thought it was just us and the Burmese.

Is it necessary to memorize? You just double the number and add one tenth of itself.

it is when you deal with it as much as i do. (5-10 minutes to assess and dose 4 or 5 people)
surface area for topical medications is a bitch too.

Bahahahahha... thanks for the lols!

You weigh 308 kg, Joie!!!

That's how I have always converted kg to pounds. Pounds to kg isn't that easy, but also not bad:

Find half of the pounds and then subtract one-tenth of the half from the half. (i.e., multiply by 0.45)

Interesting... I had no idea they didn't use metric (and it baffles and intrigues me as to ehy they don't), but I came to know of the name change when it happened some 20 years ago (also, capital name changed from Rangoon to Yangon AFAIR). Interestingly, many people still say Burma, even inlcuding Burmese and others from that region such as Thais, Vietnamese, etc.

Aren't you dealing with pharmacy drugs? When are you ever going to give someone a kilogram's worth of something? Unless, of course, they want to kill themselves.

Liberia was a US colony, so that explains that.

the kg is not the drug weight but an individual's weight mass. i don't know about drugs sold in the US, but nearly any and every drug sold outside the US, even if made in the US, gives dosages per kg of bodyweight. (dosages for babies and children)

AHAH!

The metric system is so much easier (base 10 anyone) but for the US to convert would cost billions and billions of dollars.

[Edited on March 29, 2011 at 9:42 AM. Reason : everything on my cars is metric]

Britain uses a mix of both imperial and metric.

They also just won a court case against the EU that allows them to keep using it.
