I'm leaving tomorrow to head to Melbourne for a week. I've got work to do on the weekend, but I'm hoping I'll have some free afternoons/early evenings.

Any particular places I need to try to see and do while there?

are you only going to melbourne? what part of town are you staying in?

in the process of moving here right now - been staying in kew for a few weeks and apt shopping in richmond today

there's not too many 'must-do' things in melbourne other than going to fed square and winding up in random alley bars - catch an AFL game on the weekend if you can

you just missed the comedyfest which was going on for the month of april and anzac day is tomorrow so there is a bunch going on for that - it's a 5-day weekend for most of the country right now

be prepared to pay a lot for beer/food - wine is reasonably priced though

the weather is starting to get at bit chilly but still a bunch of people out on collins/burke/swanston at night

Yes, I'll only be in Melbourne... in the Docklands area, which looks to be pretty close to you. I've got some friends who recently moved to Sydney, who may be able to come down. I'll have to wait and see though.

I'm staying in a place on Collins Street, which looks like it is close to most of the areas you mentioned. As for AFL, the place I'll be working at is very close to Docklands Stadium and one of the guys I'll be working with said we'd go to a game.

I'm not happy to hear that beer is expensive , but I kind of expected it. Seems to be a common thing in a lot of places anyway.

And you ^, noob. Don't talk to me like that. This is the lounge and that won't be tolerated. JK, get back to work.

^ You going to the bureau of meteorology? I went there for the IPWG meeting in 2006.

36 hours later, I'm here! Aside from a flight cancellation, compounded by delays and everything else less than desirable, I'm here!

So far so good...
