dangerous?

I thought the area around Roberts Park was supposed to be bad but according to the crime map not much happens there these days.

I would say the area surrounding 5 Star is pretty bad

Just b/c there is nothing left down there but empty buildings

i'm a fan of humble pie and while everything around there LOOKS kind of sketch, i've only been pestered once by a homeless person begging for change

he was black, though

me, khcadwal, and some friends went to Blu Bar the night it opened and the bartender was extremely nice

I think she knew that we were there kind of as a joke so she went along with it

that was when Two T's was still open so we were the only people in there

ok now I'm convinced that Blu Bar was where I went with my husband a couple of our friends after a night at Sitti

A night that involved 3 bottles of wine. A friend of ours wanted to go listen to jazz at Blu Bar. So we went over and listened to this jazz band. We went out the back of Blu Bar into this backyard seating area and our very intoxicated friend went up the back stairway and started pulling on this door. Apparently above Blu Bar is a underage club. The back door of this place swung open and they demaned to know who my friend was. They thought he was the police coming to shut them down. My friend said he just was confused and thought it was part of Blu Bar and apologized and came back downstairs.

Anyway, we go back into the bar to listen to the music and then we decide to call it a night after a couple of songs. We walk out the front and there are 10-15 cops out front and 100s of teenagers in the street. Apparently the underage club got busted for real not long after my friend visited them

The rule of thumb I always used was to avoid anything east of Bloodworth or south of MLK (or being on MLK blvd for that matter-- this is a good rule for a lot of cities incidentally )

Blame the TTA for that. They bought two blocks on S West St for their light rail station and have sat on them for 5 years hoping that the feds will give them some money. They're not even renting them out in the meantime, just letting them rot.

I did some work on Flanders Gallery before they opened and it was really depressing how bad the city was fucking itself down there.

This. My brother used to own a record store down in that area where the city was going to build their new rail station. The city offered him money to close down and relocate his store. He took their offer and moved to Hillsborough St. 5 Star was also offered $$$ but refused. Now its what? 5 years later? And nothing has ever come of the rail station.

In fact, his logo is still in the window of his old store. Of course, its the only window that hasn't been knocked out yet by bums.

To be fair to TTA it's not really their fault. They keep getting dicked by various political entities. If they had it their way the light rail would be up and running now.

Jillians/Buckhead/Club Raleigh Live is up for rent.

And the "for lease" sign that was in front of the old Ess Lounge is gone and it looks like some work is going on.

I cruised past the parking lot on E Lenoir where Det Paul Hale was killed in 97.

Still shady, but not nearly as bad as it was 10 years ago.
