I am going to San Francisco with family soon.....some younger kids will be along as well. Who has ridden the trollys there and is it worth the hassle? 5/14/2011 1:27:06 PM |

don't know if we're being trolled or not since the word being grammatically butchered has the word troll within itself 5/14/2011 1:29:17 PM |

I worked downtown. It's as much a hassle as any public transportation system is. Longer lines in the super touristy spots like Pier 39. 5/14/2011 2:01:44 PM |

Go at night ... the lines are way down and it's beautiful. Park South of Market and then walk to Market and Powell. Here is the real secret though, there are two lines: the Powell/Hyde and the Powell/Mason ... The Powell/Hyde is the best! ... If the other one comes first, just let other people go in front of you and wait for the Powell/Hyde.
The Powell/Hyde goes to Fisherman's Wharf ... Right to the Buena Vista Cafe, where Irish Coffee was introduced to the U.S. - you might as well go and have one.
I lived in SF for 15 years. If you want more tourist advice, PM me .... 5/14/2011 2:18:53 PM |

When I visited in August I ended up not paying for my trolley ride because it was too crowded to get to the front 5/14/2011 2:30:10 PM |

I didn't realize people use it as public transport. I thought it was pretty much a tourist thing. I went in '05 and rode it. Not really worth the hour+ wait IMO. You can drive around or walk in the city and see pretty much everything that you can see from the trolley. 5/14/2011 3:12:49 PM |

If you wait long enough, you might be able to see an earthquake 5/14/2011 3:14:46 PM |

they're called cable cars
I've lived here for 5 years and only ridden them once. They are like $5 one way and only tourists and rich people who work downtown use them 5/14/2011 4:38:54 PM |

call them whatever you want, but only tourists call them 'trolleys' and refer to SF as 'San Fran' 5/14/2011 6:38:02 PM |
