Hi. I was wondering if anyone knew if it was "legal" to camp on Atlantic Beach. I know I slept out there once in the past and nobody said anything or even came by, but I was wondering about setting up a small tent for the night. Thanks!

Camping is prohibited on the beach at Atlantic.

It's down near wilmington. Costs $20/day to actually drive out on the north end(freeman park) and it's usually packed during the summer time.

I've never seen them actually turn people around, granted I usually stay away from there on the big weekends. Wouldn't be surprised to see it 2-3 trucks deep all the way down so it's more a matter of actually finding a spot or getting out there before everyone else. Most of the ones there are just drunken college students http://www.carolinabeach.org/site_new/pages/freeman_park.html

^^it's usually just day beach goers. It is a lot less crowded at night as far as campers are concerned but you will wake up in the morning and the crowds will be starting to accumulate....

Hmm. Thanks a bunch. I'm trying to camp on the beach tomorrow, but I'm concerned about getting all the way there and then not being able to find anywhere to put my stuff. I'm guessing it will be even more packed tomorrow than it is today. Ugh. I'm not sure if it's better to wing it and see if I get caught at Atlantic or to make the trek to Freeman?!!?

Your best bet is to stay as far away from the beach as possible Memorial Day Weekend

^ that would be wise. I got the year pass for Freeman Park while it was only $60 so my cousin wants to go everytime I go home. Told him no chance in hell this weekend.

def a clutch move and i'm def glad that they do this every year. I assume it's so the locals can get cheap season passes. We usually camp for 2-3 days at a time so it pays for itself after only one trip...
