I've only known one wigger in my life. He's now an HVAC technician and makes more money than me.

Do you think they nervously roll up their windows when listening to rap music, if a black person is within earshot, a la Office Space style?

wouldn't surprise me if it was more, specially in Cary/Apex area. We've already called our HVAC guy at least 3 times this month but our system is close to 20 years old and dying. Need to lay down some serious cash for a new system. 6/12/2011 2:23:31 PM |

The thing with these kind of manual labor technician/maintenance positions (in almost any field) is that you really don't have a lot of room for advancement in career or salary. You start out pretty high considering you only need a technical degree and/or on the job training but stagnate immediately. Some people are fine with that and others are not of course.
Depending on how many years experience that guy has, that is actually above average for someone fairly entry level with say ~5 years experience or less. However, like I said you don't have a lot of room to go up in salary unless you actually start your own local HVAC contracting company. I do industrial HVAC design but I have talked to people in the field building stuff I have designed and a lot of them do residential HVAC maintenance stuff on the side. Even the guys who have like 20 years experience and are supervisors would/do make the equivalent of say ~$75,000 annually with hardly any benefits if they did the residential full time.
For those kind of positions it just depends on what kind of person you are. You can get a great "return" initially since you don't have to get a college degree and can start right out of HS if you want with a pretty high salary considering the circumstances. You also can be in demand your entire career really if you are a good worker since there are always good service man-hours needed. On the flip side your benefits usually suck, your salary is pretty stagnant over your career, and you're doing a lot of manual labor and random hours.

Why would they spell it "Stuntaz"...If you're going to spell it in a slang manner, why not "Stunnaz" since that's closer to how you would pronounce it. Stuntaz just does not roll off the tongue...that second "t" just gets in the way. 6/12/2011 3:41:50 PM |
