Raise driving age to 21, lower drinking age to 16, make minimum military enlistment age 12.

I am cool with them raising it to 17. Or make 17 for solo with two years of driving with parent with a clause that at 18 you don't need any previous limited driving. 6/15/2011 8:12:56 PM |

i think all drivers licenses should be at 16 but the test should be much more difficult and in you should have to take a second test after a year or two. 6/15/2011 8:20:28 PM |

That sounds sort of like the RUF during the Sierra Leone Civil War. We all saw how that worked out.

The tough new "graduated license requirements" are headlined by parents (or other responsible adult) signing off on supervised driving hours. Clearly this is the answer, and there is no way to cheat the system. What we really need is the DMV shuffling more paperwork. Was this conceived by the same folks that thought up the UNC football signout sheet? 6/15/2011 10:44:50 PM |

The Senate originally approved a mandate originally set at 120 hours of supervised driving. The sponsor, Republican Sen. David Rouzer of Johnston County, proposed to cut the hours in half to make the legislation more palatable to teens and parents." |

I wouldn't mind if they kept things the same, but added serious consequences for stupidity.
One moving violation or at-fault accident and your license is suspended until you are either 19, or 18 with a high school diploma. 6/16/2011 5:22:44 AM |

If the gov't wasn't incompetent this is what they would do:
-Make driver's education mandatory. And make people pay for it out of pocket (If you can't afford that then you can't afford a car) -make the driver's license test harder (much harder) -require everyone to retake the license test every 2 years
Benefits: -less traffic on the road -higher demand for public transportation -fewer car accidents 6/16/2011 9:18:50 AM |

In my opinion you shouldn't be able to get a driver's license without first being made to intentionally spin out a car (in a controlled environment). That way you know what can cause it and what it feels like. You should also have to perform a panic stop from 70 mph so you know how to properly use ABS. 6/16/2011 9:49:14 AM |
