What was the most indirect flight you've been on? Was it the only option, or did you do out just cause?

My ny-rdu segment of my bos-ny-rdu flight was canceled, so I got creative. I've never been to LA

hub and spoke method

vs.

point to point

Sounds like you should have flown Southwest for their point-to-point service and sunroof views.

Probably the worst I've ever had to do was Cincy to Kansas City (such a shithole airport) to Raleigh. I think it was the cheapest flight at the time.

occamsrezr has me beat. Osaka to San Fran, 13 hour layover in San Fran, San Fran to Seattle to Dulles to RDU

When I send FedEx packages from North Carolina to South Carolina, they usually go through Tennessee

The entirety of South Carolina is a divergence of the border between NC and GA that should have remained a straight line.

DCA -> (missing ORD segment, diverted to) -> OMA -> PHX -> DEN

Mostly due to weather delays.

Supposed to go from Raleigh to Melbourne, Australia.

Originally, my flight there was RDU -> DFW -> LAX -> MEL.
Due to storms near Dallas, my flight ended up getting canceled. My reroute was from Raleigh to London, to Abu Dhabi, to Melbourne. Added 11 hours of travel, totaling 36 hours. That was pretty rough.

Phx cleveland clt is fairly normal...

I did do rdu, Chicago, St Louis.. considering I practically passed St Louis en route... kind of goofy

Newark, Chicago, rdu was stupid, considering the a mount of flights that go between New York and rdu... this was a reschedule due to bad weather in Newark. Wtf. How does taking off to chicago where its snowing make it better than taking off to rdu?

I hadn't flown until I was a big boy with a real job at 22. A friend in DC wanted me to visit, so rather than driving I said hell, I'll fly. They routed me through Cinci to get to BWI. Flying Delta to Germany I always hated having to route through Atlanta to do that.

Lol, I called them to check if I can just get on the flight from JFK and skip the LGA - PHL leg. They told me that I will be considered as a no show for all the flights if I do not show up at JFK.

I ENDED UP AT THE SAME PLACE I STARTED,TWICE.

Can't get any more indirect than leaving your destination.

At this point, I only care about intermediate destinations where the angle of flight on the second leg of the trip is less than or equal to 1/2 a radian. Anything greater than a half a radian course redirection fails to impress me.

It is a trigonomic axiom that as you increase distance of the detour to an increasingly inconvenient geographic layover (the apex being the single stop in this case) your path is guaranteed to asymptotically approach the dimensions of a perfect isosceles triangle.

I thought my personal best was going to be a stop in Maine in a flight from Glasgow to Florida, but then I learned about the great circle. Geodesy is the most pernicious of bitches.

The algorithms to correct for these transportation plans with backed up contingencies and most cost effective methods of moving passengers for the highest profit margins are so far on the edge of advanced mathematics that GE and Google are fighting over them and can't even decide who owns what because the field is getting too complex, even for....Google.

Story behind this? Where were you headed, and why did you end up in Detroit twice?

Once i was flying to vegas. Missed my flight at RDU because I was drunk at the bar. Got another flight, that made it to the layover (i forget where this was)...but that flight got canceled because the crew didn't show up. Got a flight to LAX with some random lady also trying to get to vegas and we rented a car in LA and drove to Vegas.

So...RDU>Somewhere>LAX...drove from LA to Vegas.

Ahh..to be 22 again when you can just do shit like that for no reason.

Wichita - KC - St. Louis - Honolulu

There were even direct flights from Wichita to St. Louis with the same airline. Maybe they were all booked or something
