Apparently there are places with a higher percentage of overweight/obese people than the US.
Nauru has the highest concentration of overweight/obese denizens where 97% of men and 93% of women are overweight/obese.

Access to healthy foods aside, that's a pretty unacceptable amount of fat people.
The United States is sitting on 78%, but when it comes to food, we never back down from a challenge.] 6/28/2011 12:59:52 PM |

I have always wondered how it is possible to get that big? Does it start as a child and how gradual is it? Heredity or just giving up?] 6/28/2011 1:15:33 PM |

I've also wondered how you can be larger around the middle than you are tall. 6/28/2011 1:25:23 PM |

Quote : | "Obesity among Pacific Islanders is among the highest in the world, regardless of the island. Obesity may be due to a genetic predisposition and a cultural preference toward being heavy, but there is a high prevalence of physical inactivity among this population. Attitudes toward obesity are slowly changing, however, and it is gradually being viewed as unhealthy. Small studies that have placed obese and diabetic individuals on traditional diets have shown very good results, as individuals lost weight and diabetics were able to reduce or eliminate the need for insulin. Are pacific islanders just one of those ethnic groups that respond horribly to fatty western food?
My one counter-argument would be filipino food, which is fried pork everything, but you don't see too many fatties there, just a lot of otherwise hot girls with pot bellies. 6/28/2011 2:27:02 PM |
