I am looking at sectional couches. I saw a few at Big Lots and they are just hard as a rock. Anyone with a sectional: Do you know of any that are comfortable and soft, and not cheap. I probably need to take some time to go to a better furniture store. But some ideas of a good place to go in Raleigh area would be nice :-) Thanks

I got mine at Home Comfort on Glennwood. Mine is a sectional and four sides recline which is crucial. They also have 0% financing. Free loan.

my girlfriend has a Kivik modular from ikea http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/S79875239

it's extremely comfortable and has a lot of options. you can add a couple of chaises and a footstool ottoman with storage and get an awesome, big couch for $1200 and have the option to get different color covers to suit your interior decoration desires. hell, the sofa and one chaise is huge...add in one foot stool for the other end and you've got a great set for just $829 + tax

I was never a fan of ikea until this couch, so it's not like I just geek out over this stuff

I recommend the "Rex" sectional from La-Z-Boy.
We purchased ours 2 years ago from the shop on Glenwood and we still love it. Still as soft and cushiony as the day we got it.
We have a recliner on both ends...i'm actually sitting in it right now.
The picture posted here shows a "cinnamon" color... ours is actually dark brown..and i'm sure they have a variety of colors to choose from

Hmmm I like these suggestions... I believe there are a ton of furniture stores off of Glenwood Ave. Maybe that would be a good place to start. I believe there's a Rooms to Go too.

I kinda like the couch from Ikea... If I could add extra stuff such as a recliner and ottoman etc.

We recently got our couches from Klaussner on glenwood. Very good quality and very comfy couches, plus they're made in asheboro so you support the local economy somewhat.

Just food for though, which may not apply: If you know you'll be moving to a new place in the next couple of years, you may want to reconsider a sectional. It may not fit well where you end up next.

If you own and are expecting to be there for a while... no big deal.

general furniture advice: just go try out as much stuff as possible. what you find comfortable will differ from what someone else finds comfortable.

If you're in Raleigh, I'd recommend taking a day and just driving on glennwood between the mall and 540. There are a ton of furniture stores along that stretch.

go up Glennwood from the mall to Brier Creek stopping and testing out every place along the way, have lunch, go down the other side. Its what we did (like 5 times) to pick out our stuff. Also one of the places ( i think la-z-boy) has a thing on there website for laying out your room, i suggest taking measurements and doing this before looking

I was thinking that this would probably be the best thing. I'm not much for spending a lot of time shopping and neither is the other, but this might work the best, especially if we want to get something comfortable. I'll be headed out to Raleigh next weekend for Tim Mc Graw, so that may also get put on my agenda. :-)

Kirk Imports or Home Comfort Furniture Clearance Outlet. Both are on Glenwood.

They're both superior to any IKEA, Big Lots, etc. shit you find and cost less.

ive had my home comfort couch for almost 10 years now. lil saggy in the middle, but still very comfortable. Was quite cheap for a couch with bed in it too.

I've seen good and bad things at Rooms To Go. I went there with a friend once, and he decided against it because it seemed like crap, but I've got other friends who got some pretty damn nice couches from there within the last couple years.

We have a sectional from LaZBoy, and while it's comfortable, it is absolutely not a good value for what we paid, not to mention it took over three months for them to actual get it to us. If you care at all about customer service, I'd say avoid them completely.

Well, I ventured onto Glenwood Ave this weekend, and I was not impressed :-( I found a couch that was deep (great for cuddling) and very comfortable, but the fabric was ugly and horrible feeling. They said if I wanted to change the fabric they would charge me a 100.00 (umm can't they just "get" these couches in that fabric?) and it would be here until September, and folks, I am not going to watch tv on the floor as my dogs run me over for two months. Not to mention the couch itself would be 1200 bones. Ha, it might have been worth it if I could get my couch by Aug 1.

I am looking in Lexington this weekend. I hear there are some good stores there. I am so picky. But I want a good couch cause its where I'll be ploppin down after work :-)

There's a difference between being broke and frugal. And there is nothing wrong with being frugal. Some of the wealthiest people I know were and still are frugal. Also, I am not paying a whole lot of money for a couch that will take up to two months to get in when North Carolina is one the best manufacturers/importers of furniture, and there is just more than a Rooms to Go and Haverty's on Glenwood Ave.

Like I said, I don't mind spending money on a comfortable couch, but I am not about to get walked on by furniture companies.

You can buy a piece of furniture made in High Point and wait longer than two weeks. Stores don't stock tons of fabric and configuration options because the stock would take WAY too much space. Most places will have a single display model and maybe a couple of pieces on hand (that just happen to be there from people not picking up their order). Go to Furnitureland South and pretty much the only thing you can get immediately is going to be outlet/clearance stuff. If you want to read up on furniture brands/stores then I HIGHLY suggest you check out http://www.myfurnitureforum.com/ The guy that runs it runs a higher end furniture store and is pretty candid about different brands. Tons of older threads with people asking similar questions so you can easily find what you are looking for.

I got a living room set from Thomasville last year and I'm not happy with it at all. Not holding up: cushions already deforming, fabric wearing, etc.

you can get a lot of great deals on furniture right now; if you let the salesperson determine that financing on the purchase is a given, then they will use that angle to charge you full price for the purchase

Go to La Z Boy. Love my couch (and my recliner too). Granted, it was $1400, but it's worth every penny. Shit is comfortable as a motherfucker. I bought leather, but they have a lot of really nice microfiber and fabric couches as well. I'm sure some folks will hate on them, but I've never had a bad experience with one of their products.

As several people have mentioned, unless you buy the display or they just happen to have the fabric or leather you want in the back you'll have to order. Depending on what you want it can take anywhere from 1 week to several months. My recliner took about 6 weeks to arrive, but they had the couch I wanted right there in the building. That's going to be the case with most furniture stores, prepare to shop around and be prepared to wait if you intend to be particular about what you want. I'm of the mind that if I'm going to drop a decent amount of coin on something it's going to be exactly what I want because 5 years from now I'd rather still love the piece of furniture and be satisfied than have saved $100 and wish I'd gotten what I really wanted.

I went to Rooms to Go and got my set and I love it. Italian leather, but now it's discontinued. They have great warranties on them as well. Mine has lasted 5 years so far and has only gotten more comfortable

YUP... completely agreed... Glad I waited though, because I went to other places, and found a better sofa... One with two recliners!! and the love seat reclines too so everyone in the room can be as comfortable as I am

I now am trying to distinguish between quality. I found two different sets that do just that, but I would pay extra for the one with better quality.

Anyone know anything about Lane or Simmons? And if they are both shitty, I'd rather pay $o for none of them :-) What are your thoughts guise?

my parents actually bought me my first furniture set. they said that they had theirs for 10+ years because it just isn't something you want to break out cash to replace when you graduate so they wanted to get me something nice that I'd be happy with for a long time, and I'm very grateful that they did
