it's actually a series that was picked up by one of the networks a few years back during the Heroes craze, but was dropped from the lineup when Heroes tanked. Syfy picked it up. It's decently written and has a pretty good cast for Syfy.

i'd rank it between the first season of Heroes and any other season of Heroes

it's sort of a Mutant X that doesn't blow ass

I've got the pilot DVR'd, I'll check it out when I have some time. David Strathairn elevates this over every other show on Syfy.

It's not terrible, but yeah, there is no real likeable character.

he is, by far, my favorite character

I'm a little behind on the series but I watched Rosetta last night and thought it was a damn good episode

[Edited on August 24, 2011 at 10:52 AM. Reason : it is definitely picking up with each episode]

I'm all caught up and really enjoy it. And yea Gary started off pretty damn annoying, but he's gotten a lot better. I really like the character development on him and how he is now beginning to be defiant towards his mom. The others are coming together more now too, even Bill is becoming more likeable and not such an asshole.

I agree completely.

Gary trips me up though. The writing behind his character's dialogue is awesome.

I watched the pilot, left ep. 2 on the PC for a while, and eventually axed it.

The description of something between Heroes season 1 and Heroes everything else was pretty dead on.

^I watched all of Heroes, and honestly most of the character development on there blew compared to this. It isn't great, but there was a lot of stuff they could have done that just felt so fake just to fill airtime on Heroes. Bill has realized that this is where he is doing more good instead of at the FBI, and Gary is growing up and defying his mother to work as a "secret agent". But his character was just so awfully annoying at first.

this week's wasn't bad either, finally nice to see Rachel's character progress a little more. It was also a nice parallel between the "villain" wanting to experience what everyone else did and Dr. Rosen being the only normal amongst the alphas.

This show is nothing like Heroes other than these people have abilities. No one shoots fire, can time travel, is immortal, or can steal other abilities (at least as of yet). Their powers are much more grounded in reality to a certain extent.

Bill has the ability control the fight-or-flight response in his body. This allows him to "amp up" which makes him strong temporarily but also is extremely taxing on his body.

Gary can see, read, interpret a huge range of frequencies (radio, cell phone, television, etc).

Nina has the ability to "push" people which means she has a limited ability of mind control that she delivers through speech. It doesn't work on everyone.

Cameron has hyperkinesis which makes him very agile, accurate, fast, etc.

Rachel can actively enhance one sense while rendering the other senses useless.

To me, these are not extravagant powers like in Heroes. I honestly think this show is put together a lot better than Heroes ever was and I really liked the first season of Heroes. It just went downhill after that. Alphas is getting better with each episode. You should give it a chance.

Wow did anybody else follow this until the end of the season? I just caught the finale last now and holy shit, it has developed well, and has a great twist for a season finale!

I must begrudgingly give SyFy credit. I was not that interested in this one at first, and have them for their fucking of BSG, Stargate, Eureka, but at least they got this right, even if they simply greenlit something that never got aired on the major nets.

Finally got around to watching the finale and it was pretty good. So now that it's gotten better I'm guessing the it'll get cancelled like all the other shows on the network do.
