I was in charlotte last week and my buddies and I decided to see Transformers in IMAX at concord mills. I had never seen an imax movie before, so I was pretty stoked. When we walked in the theater to find a seat, I thought the screen was pretty large. My friend, however, started complaining and said it was not a real imax screen. He said the true IMAX screen should be much larger (he cited Marbles as an example) I did a google search and found imax screens can be different sizes.
So, what is the best IMAX theater around these parts? I noticed crossroads advertises an imax theater now. 7/16/2011 9:43:03 PM |

I personally think Marbles has a better seating arrangement for IMAX and they make it PITCH BLACK DARK in there 7/16/2011 9:47:00 PM |

Marbles is much better after the renovation...the seats used to be really uncomfortable unless you had the frame of a 12 year old girl, but the new seats are quite comfy. 7/16/2011 9:54:02 PM |

If you go to a multiplex and they have an IMAX theater, it's more of an "IMAX" theater than IMAX theater in that they call it that, but it's fundamentally different.
Basically, yeah, Marbles.

Discovery Place's theater is a real IMAX, but it's the IMAX Dome/OMNIMAX format.7/17/2011 3:33:38 AM |

Before coming to Raleigh my only previous IMAX experience was the dome one in Discovery Place. I was disappoint when I walked into the Marbles theater. 7/17/2011 4:22:51 AM |

i gotta say that while imax is cool, it sucks balls unless you're in the back row center at marbles due to the room to screen size ratio. i had a better viewing experience in the discovery place planetarium and there are certain effects that can only be achieved with that curved screen, like generating the sensation of falling because your entire field of vision including peripheral is filled with video. 7/17/2011 10:10:29 AM |

i like the omnimax
^ and yea it does. if you guys like documentaries and see more than 2 feature films at the imax (marbles) a year you should consider the power pass. i love that thing. i got one for christmas. best present ever. its like $30 a year and it includes free docs, $5 feature films, plus you get to go in the special line to get first dibs on seats (perhaps the best part). it is nerdy but i seriously love that thing. obviously not all feature films go to the imax but pretty much all the ones that have were worth the $5 to see them (considering i'd pay what $8 - $10 at a reg theater). AND FREE DOCUMENTARIES LIKE BORN TO BE WILD 3D!!!!!!!
