Hello everyone. I've been meaning to make this thread for a long time but didn't know how to approach it. I want this to be an ongoing thread because it's not everyday that you learn lessons in life. But when you do, I want you to post the lessons in here.


The main question is this:
"What are some words of wisdom, pointers, and tips, you would teach to your own children about life in general.

I'd like to keep this on a serious but fun note, please.
Please don't criticize someone else's words of wisdom.
You may discuss a post in further detail if there is confusion.
You may change/reword anything to fit your own views or if you simply feel there is a better way of communicating an idea (which you'll have to use for me quite a bit).


I'll start.

Life lesson on Trust

1. Trust is the most valuable social commodity in life. You need it in almost every aspect in life. Relationships, Marriages, Leading People, Dependence.
2. Although you should live life expecting not to trust anyone, it's impossible to live a lifetime without trusting someone for something.
3. Don't feel like a fool if someone misuses your trust to deceive you. At the same time, discredit the deceiver and never, ever trust them again after an intentional first offense.
4. Never trust a person who can't prove their trust.
5. Never be a person who can't prove their own trust.
6. Form strong bonds with those you can trust.

haha my parents for real gave me that advice. My parents also told me to never speak to the police without them or a lawyer present if it seemed they were looking to get me in trouble. That actually served me well in 5th grade when a neighbor in our apartment complex that had a bug up their ass about our family decided to call social services because I liked to play in the woods without shoes on

Better advice: if you do a drug, know the short and long term effects, and have someone with you who has done it before.

I think you are over analyzing this. I have never seen cocaine or heroin that grows on plants or trees. There is the whole chemical process to arrive at those final products.

Seemingly good advice but like all "words of wisdom" you have to know when it applies. The worst managers stick by this rule too strictly and end up never learning to delegate properly or give instructions properly.

50% of the time when someone else "doesn't do it right the first time" it is because the person who asked them to do something pictured/wanted A but described B (while thinking they described A) and then gets upset when they receive B.

And on that note: Good communication is important in EVERY industry. The worst engineers to work with are the "i'm an engineer I don't have to communicate well" kind. A good engineer who is also a great communicator(written and spoken) will almost always go farther than the great engineer with poor communication skills.

^I was thinking the same thing today while watching a commercial that showed regular people asking their iphones questions and the phone responded with complete answers.

Humans can build machines to build computers for robots that build machines.
