I saw there was another thread solely for 9mm, but I'm trying to open it up to more options.

I just recently took the concealed and carry course, so I am now in the market to buy my first ever pistol. I've been a hunter my whole life and own several shotguns/rifles, but have never owned a pistol nor do I know anything about different makes/models/brands/calibers.

I'm looking to purchase two pistols:
1) Carrying revolver for protection. Probably hammerless single-action. I'm open to a semi-automatic instead here. Would prefer a smaller pistol that could fit in my pockets.
2) A sport shooting pistol. Wide open to suggestions here. Don't need anything huge, but just something fun to shoot at the range.

Try not to turn this into a political debate about carrying. I'm interested in some info about pistols from people who own them or know about them.

Because it's from four years ago, and the search results are sorted by date started with no option for date of last post.
