Glad they kept Weddle and Floyd. Hopefully Ryan Matthews will be much better this season and stay healthy. Rivers and Gates can't do it all by themselves again. Wish Sproles was still around for his ST skills, but he was overpaid. 8/5/2011 4:45:57 PM |

Naanee wore out his welcome last year when he didn't step up when given a golden opportunity to shine at WR. He further ensured that he wouldn't be welcomed back when he got in trouble with the law in the offseason.
VJ, Floyd and Crayton is a very solid top 3 at WR. If Vincent Brown steps in and contributes, the WR corps will be one of the strengths of the team. 8/5/2011 11:15:24 PM |

I think sproles has been average at best at special teams for a while now.
Honestly I don't think he will be missed if Matthews can stay healthy. There have been reports of him not being in shape for training camp, dude needs to buckle down.

A lot of talk about the Chargers moving to LA now that the city council has approved a new stadium. I kind of hope this happens for the sake of Rivers career. If he can win in LA, he'll be that much more marketable. I could care less about SD. I only follow the Chargers because of Rivers anyway. 8/11/2011 12:33:14 PM |

^ yeah but what does ESPN's new QB scoring system say
They had Rivers as the 8th best QB in the league last year using all of their fancy math whereas he was #2 in the old rating system. I wonder if ESPN's rankings take into account having crappy WRs and spreading the ball around to 17 different people. 8/12/2011 8:23:06 AM |

New stadium in SD
Also if LA ever actually got a team, the league wouldn't have LA as a threat to hang over the heads of every other team. If there was a team in LA the NFL wouldn't have half as many new stadiums that they do.
LA is more valuable to Goodell with no team than with a team.

You're right, why would Goodell want the 2nd largest TV market when he can continue not having one there...
Quote : | "Pudgil said it's premature to speculate about possible public funding sources for any San Diego stadium plan that may evolve from conversations following the mayor's trip. Fabiani has suggested for years a stadium could cost $800 million and said the city and team might be able to contribute $300 million but that public money would have to be part of the equation." |
The bolded part is why it will never happen. The taxpayers of SD have shot this down more than once.

SD should start 4-1 before that stretch of games @NYJ, @KC, GB, Oak, @Chicago. That is a tough stretch of 5 games and if they don't get off to a 4-1 start, it could be a serious uphill climb to make the playoffs. 8/31/2011 1:18:29 PM |

^ KC and Oak have both improved. Yes SD should beat them, but they are not as shitty as they have been in the past. Winning at KC is never easy. Look at the schedule. If SD slips up and loses a game or two to Miami, KC, Denver or Oak, they could easily be 5-5 or 4-6 heading into the Nov 27 games vs Denver. The non-conference schedule is tough in the first half of the season with very losable games @NE, @NYJ, GB, and @Chicago.
I agree though that they should be a 10-11 win team or better if they beat the teams they should, but every year they make it tough on themselves to make the playoffs.

^^ I primarily meant they have improved from where they have historically been the past decade. Last year they were much better than they've been in the prior 6+ years. This year, they'll probably suck again, but we'll see.
KC was a solid team last year and should be SD's only real threat this year.

Let's be realistic. It'd be a hell of a surprise if anyone in the AFC West other than the Chargers went 8-8.
Since the Chargers should win 10 if they stay reasonably healthy this division won't be close.
There's no other division in the league with a more obvious favorite than this one. 9/2/2011 12:00:42 AM |

As an Oakland fan, I'm going to say that I expect things to shake out much like last year. Campbell will be better if not the same as the end of last year and the defense should overachieve like last year as well. McFadden is going to have a career year since he's probably going to not balance as much with Bush as last year.
I still expect 7-9 wins, with San Diego getting 9-10.
Pryor is dumb as shit. He got a 7 on the wonderlich. I doubt he sees the field anyway, at least not without terrible injuries.
I won't distract from your thread much more but I'll just say that the West is still going to be the worst division in football this year and even without Ashomugha, Miller, and Gallery Oakland should still be a game or two behind SD and KC all year. That's as optimistic as I can be. 9/2/2011 12:17:07 PM |

^^Looking at sample questions for the Wonderlic, I couldn't even fathom how it was possible for anyone, even an athlete, to get 7 out of 50 questions correct. For fuck's sake.
Can't fucking wait for the season to begin. The Chiefs worry me of course, and I think the D will take a step or two back with Ron Rivera gone to the Panthers, but, like most, I'm optimistic we will pull out 9 or 10 wins and maybe win the division. I think Kansas City will win 8-10 games as well.
