The U.S. national team is preparing for the Rugby World Cup that will be beginning in 4 weeks. Tonight they play Canada in Denver at 9:15pm. If you get Universal Sports on your cable system, it'll be on there. If you don't, you can go to universalsports.com and watch a legal live stream of the game there.

Universal Sports and NBC will be showing some of the RWC games next month. Also, there is a channel on Directv called "Rugby" on the guide. The other week there was a game on between Australia and South Africa I think at about 3 am. Outside of that there has never been any programing on it.

First game of the Rugby World Cup starts in a couple hours as the hosts New Zealand (the All Blacks) take on Tonga. If you're interested and get the channel Universal they'll broadcast it at 3:30am live and on a tape delay at 5pm.

However, the U.S. national team (the Eagles) will be on NBC this coming Sunday. It just so happens it's going up against week 1 of the NFL, so watch your NFL but DVR the rugby game to give it a watch later to see what you think about the sport. The game will be on at 1pm and they're playing the Irish.

Irish dispatched the Eagles with relative ease. Expected. Play russia next. Play Russia on Thursday. They looked much better than I was expecting and take a lot of momentum into a game they should win. Irish looked like they lost the game after the final try.

There have been some good games to start. Wales nearly beat the Boks and I wish England choked against Argentina. Unfortunately only 7 games are on TV

^ Watched the Scotland-Romania game with a Scottish partisan Friday night. He was getting a little nervy when Romania was up 24-21 with 10 to go.

Only two big teams that can feel reasonably pleased with their first game performance are the Wallabies and All Blacks.

NC State won the ACI (acc) mens sevens tournament for the second year in a row and earned an invitation to miami for nationals which I believe is over Christmas break and televised by msnbc.

^ Yeah, congratulations to them. They should've been in the Collegiate Rugby Championship 7s over the summer that was broadcast on NBC from winning the ACI 7s last year but NBC chose Carolina over them due to having the "bigger brand name". The nice thing about this "national championship" USA Rugby started to counteract the CRC 7s is they're taking all the conference champs as opposed to focusing on big brand name schools. I used to play with State's coach. He was 40-some years old and still playing rugby.
