I can't believe I'm suggesting this, and I think its actually a lame idea, but I think its also intriguing so what the hell.

How about a n00b forum where the only people allowed to post in it are those with a yet to be determined condition:

a) They have a post count less than 500-1000.
b) They have been registered for less than 6 months.

By restricting access to this forum to those people, n00bs would be allowed to be stupid etc. and they could also form their own cliques more easily. Of course they would be allowed to post in all the regular forums, but the n00b forum would be like a safe haven for them to hide from the likes of Frosh and Trappy.

Now, if the condition is set to a, then there will be lots of old timers that could post in that section as well as n00bs. This might not be a big issue though, because most old timers with post counts less than 500-1000 don't generally flame peeps for n00bishness.

If the condition is set to b, then that will work too. I can't think of any issues involved in that.

Again, new recruits would NOT be restricted to this forum. Old recruits would not be allowed to post in it.

Thats my idea. Flame away.

Actually...I can't believe it but I am in agreement. This will prevent the scaring away of new users by Frosh,Jackleg, YOU, etc and allow them to also be part of the general community whenever they please. The suggestions that restrict new users to a "n00b forum" are a bad idea....but this one has potential. I'd suggest lowering the post count to 100-200 however because that is a whole hell of a lot of posts.

In either case, oldies should at least be allowed to look at what's going on in that forum...

no, thats not my idea.

The genius of my idea is that n00bs are not restricted to the n00b forum.

What will happen is that old timers are not allowed to post in the n00b forum.

Its a subtle, but major, difference. It will allow n00bs, if they so desire, to form their own little cliques, etc. and get some friends before venturing out into jackleg's domain. I joined TWW long before the concept of n00b was ever introduced and I never went through any sort of hazing experience. I just became an old-timer by default. This sort of a section might allow an approximation of the same to occur for new members today.

Once again, the new recruits would NOT be restricted to that board. They would just be the only ones with posting privelege there. It would be kind of cool if everyone could read the board, though.

jesus...I'm pretty sure I pointed out the subtle but criticaldifferences in ideas in my post as well. And anybody that thinks that either of this is an original idea hasn't been hear long enough. This has been brought up at least 3 or 4 times before.

um, i dunno how much good asking questions like that would be, seeing as the only people allowed to answer would be other n00bs, but I guess they could try.

I don't know if this is needed or not. Its not the type of section that you can judge the need for based on thread quantity.

fuck that, n00bs need to be tough enough to handle the real message boards right off. If they can't, they can fuck off.

OK, I just read this, and I am pretty miffed about it.

Fuck you for mentioning my name. Goddamit, you just love to throw around accusations, don't you?

I have NEVER given a hard time to new users, EVER.

I mean, WTF?

Neither did I. Why? Because I'm not an idiot. Most people who get seriously flamed are acting completely moronic. Idiocy should be treated as such. And if someone can't tolerate being called a n00b, they're not going to be able to handle anything else on this site much better.
