not race wise but culturally they are not athletic at all. all they play is cricket well which is cricket. for all the people they always are super low in the olympics. you never see an athlete in american sports of indian heritage. Are there any in euro soccer? their national teams are never ever decent. Whats the deal? 9/27/2011 9:58:09 PM |

We had a guy who used to play on our indoor soccer team who is Indian and was very good. Very fast, good touch and could shoot. Scored one of the most memorable goals of the several years I have been playing with this team. I know he also plays cricket and is apparently good at it as well. We have a middle aged Indian guy who is also pretty good, he's not that fast but can dribble and shoot very well. However, there were a handful of other Indian guys on our team at one point or another and they were all horrible. 9/27/2011 11:17:59 PM |

Competitive sport has very low priority in a typical Indian parent mindset. The probability of making a career out of playing sport is very low in India. Unfortunately for the majority of the people sport is only a leisure activity. Only cricket is has been commercially exploited. As more and more sports take this route in India, you will start seeing more Indian athletes on the world arena.
FYI NC State has been recruiting tennis players in India for a few years now.

how much would you bench at the age of 25 never having benched before or done any exercises or sport? (and also much smaller in size)
Quote : | "It's like dude if you don't eat protein then weightlifting is a waste of time." |
did you follow one of them around analyzing his diet and discovered that he consumed no protein over the course of a whole day? protein is not just in steaks.
so instead of appreciating that they are doing something that they have never done before, you laugh at them. must be nice to be born with bulging muscles.
*****************************************************************
in pretty much the whole non-western world, there is no concept of "let's go lift", or "let's jog", etc. couple that with a significantly lower amount of protein and calories in the diet. that should suffice as an answer to the question in the thread title.
Quote : | "you never see an athlete in american sports of indian heritage." |
and the sky is blue. why would you? i haven't seen many americans competitively playing table tennis, badminton, or squash. also, in much of the world outside the US (i.e., countries/cultures that have been around for much longer than the US), sports are mainly played as a tradition and for leisure, not for competition. the few who do end up in competitive sports tend to get into sports that their national compatriots are already famous for. that's why you will see dominant countries/cultures in many sports.9/28/2011 6:42:30 AM |

Traditional Indian wrestling is kinda a big deal over there and I think they are somewhat competitive in the Olympics.
The Hindu squat and Hindu Pushups I guess where invented by them
The ones that come to America Im guessing are the smartest ones that have been mostly studying alot. Some "Americanized" indian guys I know were as athletic as your average joe

Dude I am far from a naturally muscular person.
The point is your average 25 year old male who doesn't lift weights can still probably squeeze out 5-10 reps of 135.
Most girls can do sets of ten with 45-65 lbs that's the point. If you aren't going to eat protein then lifting weights is pointless 9/28/2011 8:37:18 AM |

The average person in India doesn't have the means to go to a basketball court, a baseball diamond or any other kind of sports area that we are so accustomed to here. They don't have the facilities that the average high school in this country has for people to develop into playing 'real' sports.
That is why many of them play cricket in the street in front of their houses, ping pong (or table tennis as they call it) is also very popular. You know why they don't swim? because there are not many Olympic sized pools or training facilities for the average person to be able to attend.
The list goes on and on... 9/28/2011 11:53:22 AM |

FTFY.
you sure like to make assumptions. there is no such thing as the "average 25 year old male". have you see the diversity of body sizes and strengths around the world? i have no clue what you would get if you averaged all the 25 yo males in the world.
indian/asian males are far smaller, have much less muscle mass, much less strength, and less developed neuromuscular pathways than western males.
i see hundreds of 20-30 yo old males from the asian continent on a daily basis. there is no way more than a 1/4 of them could bench that much. perhaps 1/2 could if you are talking 1RM. (the half who are overweight)
btw, it is not just about strength. it is also about the neuromuscular pathways needed for executing a proper lift. the bench press movement is not a movement that is done by the vast majority of the world as part of daily life, or ever. the squat and deadlift movements are, but not the bench. i remember when i was a sophomore i was lifting with my partner. we were doing the bench, i was lifting a measly 100 lbs or so (BW 140 lbs). one of our friends, a ukrainian student, who did gymnastics for a decade, stopped by. he wanted to try benching the 100 lbs. he had never benched before. dude was cut, and weighed about 160 pounds; i would guess he had double my sheer strength. he did lift it, but in piss poor form, he nearly dropped it on his chest coming down, and had difficulty racking it. he was clearly embarrassed. as i said, it is not just strength. i bet he would have been awesome at the squat and deadlift, though, as those are natural/common movements, and he had the requisite strength.

so is india's: cricket, field hockey, badminton, etc. but i get your point.
part of it is american influence (basketball and baseball). part is this: the few who do end up in competitive sports tend to get into sports that their national compatriots are already famous for. that's why you will see dominant countries/cultures in many sports.9/28/2011 5:47:36 PM |
