What do you think are the best 2.1 speakers and why? I have Bose Companion 2, but thinking about upping them Bose Companion 3 or 5 or whatever other brand (if they are better). 10/1/2011 3:17:31 AM |

Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 Computer Speakers.
Peak Power: 200 Watts total system Satellites: 35 watts/channel @ 5% THD, 1KHz, two channels driven Subwoofer: 130 watts peak (50 watts @ 5% THD, 50 Hz continuous)
$155 at Best Buy
Then get one of these:
Then one of these:
Hook the RCA into the TV out.
Profit.
That's my connection, and the speakers are usually at 10% of output they are so freakin' loud. 10/1/2011 8:19:59 AM |

Yeah Klipsch are a lot better in my opinion than the Bose. Why 2.1 though just curious? 10/1/2011 8:34:14 AM |

2.1 seems to fit the room a lot better. That and daughter likes to play with wires, so I'm trying to confine the wires in one area under the desk.
Budget is not really a concern (I really do want really good speakers). I was also looking at the Bose Companion 5 which is supposed to be a completely immersive 5.1 surround fitted into a 2.1 setup. I've heard great reviews on that one as well.
The Promedia seems to get the job done it sounds like, but I did want to see what else was there too. 10/3/2011 1:01:33 PM |

Absolutely exit the Bose market as soon as possible. You'll never look back. 10/6/2011 1:05:54 PM |

I own a pair of Audioengine A5+ speakers and I'm looking to buy a pair of speaker stands. Does anyone have any recommendations? 2/9/2017 4:11:52 PM |

If you like the sound you're getting from the bose, why change? Hyundai sonata is in a different class from a Range Rover, but if the Sonata gets it done for you...
My 2c would be I think Bose has a completely gutless midrange. Therefore, not so great for anything requiring that frequency band. But if you like pop, electronic, or are just hooking it up to watch TV, they do fantastic. I have a companion 3 set hooked to my TV output right now -- only complaint is the remote is wired and has an ongoing battle with the robot vacuum. And their high price: I got mine from a shipping out soldier on craigslist for $40. On the positive side, I think Bose has some of the best mix-maintain across volume ranges. You don't experience the "nothing but the bass" when turned down, nor the "wheres the bass" when you turn it back up. Set the sound you like and you pretty much get it from volume 10% to 90%.
On my computer I have a 2.1 THX Logitech (Z-series) set. They tend to be overly bottom heavy, but they have a knob right beside the volume to adjust on the fly. Great for games and movies and such.
The truth is: I'll probably replace them all with a sonos set. I think they sound great, and no wires is a huge win. 2/10/2017 8:08:51 AM |
