I've seen a few that are sub 30k - some sub 25k - and the thought of a V8 RWD coupe is alluring to me.

Are they hunks of shit in disguise?

They're pretty fast in a straight line but most Mercedes models aren't known for amazing handling unless there's an AMG badge on the back (and that's really just a more recent thing too).

Buddy of mine has an '02 CLK320. Running gear has been pretty good but he's had a lot of electrical gremlins with it. Handling is nothing to write home about, but it's comfortable and it looks good. (Yes, previous generation, so take that fwiw.)

Seen quite a few AMG badged ones in that price range. Druthers given, that's what I'd go for.

late 90s and early to mid '00 benz id stay away. last 4-5 years quality is supposedly better with less problems.

the best buy in benz world is '04-06 E55 AMG. 600hp with software for $25k.

Are the AMGs any better? I took a joy ride in an E55 at Carmax and remember it handling like boat (with a hugggggge engine)
