Just like you were going to pull us out of the war and instead increased the number of troops in Afghanistan. Obama is now going back on his word of supporting State Medical Marijuana Laws...
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/rob-kampia/obama-from-first-to-worst_b_1001781.html
Quote : | "During his run for the presidency, Barack Obama instilled hope in medical marijuana supporters by pledging to respect state laws on the matter. And for the first two years of his term, he was generally faithful to his promise. Yet suddenly, and with no logical explanation, over the past eight months he has become arguably the worst president in U.S. history regarding medical marijuana." |
Looks like someone has the Pharmaceutical Companies in their back pocket again. Don't eat/smoke a non-physically addictive moderate to severe pain medicine! Instead take a heavily physically and mentally addictive opiate based pain medicine instead.
I really thought this might be the one thing Obama would not go a 180 on what he said, but once again the prick can't stand by his word.
The funny part is there are a handful of Federal Medical Marijuana Patients (I think 6). What are they going to try and pull on these guys now?
April 2010:
Fuck Obama

but why did he decide to change his mind suddenly now in the last month? He did pull the feds off of State Marijuana laws up until the last few months where he did a 180 and became the worst President ever on Medical Marijuana policy.

couldn't possibly be planning for a re-election campaign could he?
that's one of my beefs with all politicians
oh you're running for an office with a 4 year term?
psych, you're running for an office with a 2.5-3 year-term and 1-1.5 year re-election period where you care more about re-election than doing what people supposedly voted you in office for
on the bright side, I won't get any summons for jury duty since I hate both douches and turd sandwiches 10/10/2011 3:39:30 AM |

I mean this shit is recent, but a few States are finding some loopholes
Quote : | "11. On September 21, Obama's ATF issued an open letter saying that gun shops cannot sell guns to medical marijuana patients -- or people who are known to be addicted to drugs other than alcohol or tobacco, ironically enough.
So those are the footnotes for the chart. Depressing, huh?
But there may be a way forward through this mess: Since Colorado, Maine, and New Mexico set up state-licensing systems for medical marijuana businesses in recent years, literally zero such businesses in these three states have been raided by the feds.
(All the raids we hear about -- in California, Michigan, Montana, and Washington state -- do not involve any state-licensed businesses. At best, some of the targeted businesses were licensed by local governments in California under a loosely worded provision of California state law.)
Technically, federal prosecutors can civilly or criminally target any marijuana businesses they want -- in any state -- until we change federal law. But, for the time being, the feds appear not to be targeting medical marijuana businesses with state licenses.
It's worth noting that my organization has successfully enacted new laws that include state licensing in Arizona, Delaware, Rhode Island, and Vermont over the last two years. (And D.C. and New Jersey have licensing systems, too.)
So we may have a way forward. Unfortunately, the plan now assumes hostility from the former marijuana user in the White House who used to profess notions of hope, change, and compassion toward the less fortunate. Shame on him." |

OK I'll defend Obama. Sue me.
Here are the parts of this article that apply to Obama:
Quote : | "8. The IRS started going after medical marijuana businesses under the second Bush regime, and the IRS has continued doing so under Obama. In a fluke of how federal law is written, the IRS is arguing that businesses can actually deduct the cost of the marijuana that they're selling, but businesses cannot deduct other costs (rent, salaries, insurance, supplies) that any other business would normally deduct. If this doesn't change, almost all dispensaries will either go out of business or become tax evaders; either way, the federal government will be deprived of tax revenues." |
If nothing has changed, why are they suddenly going out of business now? And is this thing even on Obama's radar?
Quote : | "9. This past spring, Obama's U.S. attorneys in Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Montana, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Washington state issued letters to local and state government officials at carefully chosen times, for the purpose of killing medical marijuana reform measures or hampering implementation in each state." |
Loaded with subjective reasoning. Huffington Post can only speculate about the intention of these letters. Where are the details?
Quote : | "10. Over the last couple of years, medical marijuana businesses have been having trouble finding banking institutions that are willing to accept their money. When members of Congress asked Obama's Treasury Department for guidance, the Treasury Department said that each banking institution would have to determine its own tolerance for risk -- without defining what might constitute a risky situation. And now, just in the past couple of weeks, the Obama administration has been scaring California banks into dropping all businesses that are involved with medical marijuana." |
Again, speculation. How, exactly, is the Obama administration "scaring California banks" and how do we know the intention is for them to drop "all businesses that are involved with medical marijuana"?
Quote : | "11. On September 21, Obama's ATF issued an open letter saying that gun shops cannot sell guns to medical marijuana patients -- or people who are known to be addicted to drugs other than alcohol or tobacco, ironically enough." |

I get angrier about drug legislation every day.
It is baffling that we can drink alcohol and smoke cigarettes but not smoke marijuana.
Of course, from a medical perspective, it's even more outrageous.
It is also apparent to me that there is widespread support (or ambivalence) about medical marijuana and even legalizing marijuana altogether. So it is especially frustrating when governments fail to respond to obvious public sentiment or, like the present and recent administrations, take direct aim at reversing the gains of marijuana reformers. 10/11/2011 3:49:37 AM |

California's laws on medical marijuana are far different from most other states.
Also cocaine is physically addictive and has no medical benefits. However marijuana has been researched world wide and has multiple medical usages. 10/11/2011 10:46:42 PM |

if you are trying to make your point, at least try and make statements that are not incorrect
Cocaine had plenty of medicinal uses, but due to "side effects" and advancements of medicine to make other stuff that is more effective, it is now just a recreational drug10/13/2011 9:00:52 PM |

semantics- there are benefits, but we have better stuff now (which I mentioned in my post)
but to say that there are no benefits (whether or not there are better things with more benefits) is wrong
note: I am for legalization, I just think using false facts to make an argument will hurt it more (because then anti legalizers will say that there are plenty of modern substitutes for pot that are better)
